Fears for Prince Andrew’s well-being as Duke was 'almost incoherent' after exile

Royal insiders are said to be concerned over Prince Andrew’s wellbeing following his exile from public life.

Sources have claimed the royals are intent on keeping him inside the Firm over fears his exile could result in problems for the family. One official said the Duke of York was “almost incoherent” after he stood down from royal duties after his Newsnight interview in 2019.

The Prince failed to apologise for his relationship with the late paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein. He then paid his accuser Virginia Giuffre £12million to halt a civil trial in the US. She accused him of sexually assaulting her on three occasions in 2001.

The Duke has always vehemently denied wrongdoing and said he has “no recollection” of ever meeting Ms Giuffre. Robert Hardman’s new biography of Charles III says the King will not allow his brother back into royal life but will not abandon him.

Mr Hardman suggests the family are keen to keep Andrew on the inside, saying one royal insider claimed: “Andrew could be far more damaging outside the loop.” Some fear for his mental well-being. One official was astonished by the change in him after the interview.
