A cooking-loving mum has shared her ultimate tip for making "perfectly crispy" potato wedges in an air fryer.

Using an air fryer to cook meals is more popular than ever as people can cook their food faster without having to add oil, plus the kitchen appliances helps save on rising energy bills. Air fryer recipes are becoming more and more popular for family meals at home, and chef Lou Robbie has come up with several creative ways to utilise her device.

The recipe developer, who loves sharing her tips on lunchbox snacks, desserts, and edible gifts, has revealed how she makes the perfect potato wedges every time - by going against what everyone says you should not do with an air fryer.

"They're crispy on the outside and soft in the middle," Lou said. But her unusual trick caused a stir on social media.

Lou explained: "I'm so excited to share my air fryer perfect wedges hack with you. So, we're going to add some water to create steam. This helps them to cook quicker without drying out. The water should evaporate during the cooking time."

The mum washes 650g rooster potatoes and chops them into wedges. She uses cooking oil to coat them and uses one to two teaspoons of paprika, as well as salt and pepper to season."

Lou added: "Chop the wedges and add them into a mixing bowl. Add a small amount of oil and season with salt and toss to coat. Add them to the air fryer basket along with 80ml of water.

"Air fry at 200C for 12.5 minutes. Then give them a shake, spray with more oil and add the paprika and another pinch of salt and pepper. Air fry again at 200C for another 12.5minutes."

The post raked up almost one million views and hundreds of comments. "Great tip I need to try this," one individual said. "Ooh that’s a great hack," another added.

"They look fab! Great hack," a third commented. But another wrote: "Surely to add water is dangerous?"

"My air fryer says never to use water with it - a fire risk," said one other.
