Blue Monday survival tips as Brits book holiday or go to pub to get through day

Half of Brits plan to book a trip today or at least to go to the pub to get through Blue Monday.

One in four of us (24 percent) book a holiday on the third Monday in January - the day typically known as Blue Monday or the most miserable day of the year. A further 24 percent say they will ignore Dry January and head to the pub while taking a long soak in the tub (19 percent) is our third favourite thing to do to cheer ourselves up.

Researchers found that nine out of ten Brits believe January doesn’t have to be awful as long as you swerve New Year diets and no-booze pledges. Box sets, gym workouts, Facetiming friends and date nights also made the top ten list of mood boosting activities for January.

The poll by GetYourGuide, found 60 percent of the 2,000 Brits surveyed said they would be going all out to have fun on Blue Monday.

GetYourGuide’s Director of Global Brand, Xavier Tardy, said: “Our study has shown that Brits are determined to beat the January blues this year by enjoying experiences. There are many different ways to brighten up a day. Getting out of the house needn’t cost too much and we don’t have to go too far either. The myriad of experiences on the GetYourGuide platform are evidence of this.
