Turns out you should never take your gran candle shopping.

While everybody loves the smell of their new Clean Cotton Yankee candle wisping through the freshly cleaned living room, one supermarket is flogging a rather questionable alternative that has left the internet in stitches.

Last week, shoppers were left mortified after a shelf full of candles looked like something straight out of an Anne Summers catalogue. The pink candles have a candelabra-shaped bottom allowing them to stand upright. However, the heat had slightly warped the top half of them - making them look rather phallic. It might be best to stick to wax melts for a while.

Taking to Reddit, one anonymous user posted a photo of the X-rated candles with the caption: "Oh, didn't expect to see this today." The Decor Pillar Candle, sold by the Australian supermarket Kmart, costs 5 AUD (around £2.62).

The product's description says the candles are an 'elegant addition to your home' that adds a 'soothing vibe to your living space'. But hundreds of amused viewers took to the comments section to share their thoughts - with many cracking jokes at the item.

"Good to see they have a flared base," one person joked. Another commented: "Heat up your love life with these." While a third added: "Thanks, I hate my brain."

Last month, parents were left raging after spotting 'inappropriate' stocking fillers in HMV. Whilst one woman was browsing the merchandise aisle, she discovered two mugs with the phrases 'fresh out of f***s' and 'rock out with your c**k out'.

She says the swearry items were positioned on a low shelf, next to a PlayStation light, as well as novelty gifts from Minecraft, Animal Crossing, and Super Mario Bros. "I feel like I'm completely out of touch," she said on Mumsnet. "If I had my 10-year-old son with me, I would've been very cross to have reading that amongst the Minecraft merch."

Many parents agreed with the post, branding the display as 'completely out of order'. "I'd hate this too, imagine five years olds just learning to read and trying to read everything they see," one user wrote.
