Claire Sweeney suffers messy blunder due to nerves ahead of Dancing On Ice

Bag of nerves Claire Sweeney says she dropped her pre-Dancing on Ice roast dinner on the floor hours before curtain up on Sunday. The Coronation Street star has signed up for the ITV show and although it wasn't her week to skate, she was still clearly anxious ahead of opening night. She spoke to This Morning hosts Dermot O'Leary and Josie Gibson and insisted she knows how hard it is going to be.

Claire was happy she had a watching brief on day one but that didn't stop her having an accident before she briefly took to the ice to introduce herself to viewers. She said: "Dermot it is terrifying, I'm clumsy at the best of times. We got a nice roast dinner on set before the show and I'm walking back to my dressing room and I fell over with it! That's not even on the ice!

"I'm scared. I've done as much as I can. I was glad I stood and watched last night. I woke up yesterday and I was still nervous. But the problem is, if I do get through, I get less time to work on my routine. The ice is unforgiving. I'm a bit fearful, as you get older you get more frightened of things but it's a new challenge. I want to get a skater's bum - so what's not to like?"

Dancing On Ice fans love Ryan Thomas so far and so does actress Claire. "I was watching last night and everyone stepped up. Ryan Thomas with those spins!" she told the hosts, adding that she wants to "lose weight and conquer her fears" on the show.

Claire gave Dancing on Ice legends Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean more than they bargained for on her first day on the ice. The soap icon recalled the embarrassing moment ahead of the ITV series return on Sunday. Claire admitted she fell over on her first day at the rink, but she didn't realise the full consequences of her clumsiness until later that day.

She explained: "We meet Torvill and Dean and they stand in the middle of the ice and say 'Welcome'. You've got to make your way out to them in this huge ice rink. So I'm kind of like Bambi. I skate, but then I go bang and I take a really hard fall.

"I got back up and I thought the main thing here is to carry on, to keep my confidence. If I can carry on, that will be a big achievement for me. So I get up and I carry on. I'm really proud of myself and I carry on for half an hour." She continued: "Then they thank me and get off the ice and I get to my dressing room. I'm trying to be cool. I get in the dressing room and I'm hyperventilating and then I catch myself in the mirror and my leggings are ripped from the top of my bum to the bottom."
