Over half of Brits (52%) see January as the most money-stressed time of year, a new survey reveals.

An overwhelming 84% confide that this January might be their toughest yet financially, according to Nationwide Building Society's research. The study deemed this week particularly difficult with payday just around the corner.

Over half of us (51%) accept that Christmas spending makes January a tight month, while energy costs were flagged up by two-fifths (43%). Additionally, 37% name increased living costs as a significant strain on their finances.

More than half of Britons would rather speak face-to-face for any needed help, instead of online methods. Nationwide's director of retail services, Mandy Beech, stated: "Because we still believe in face-to-face service and we have listened to our customers, we have committed to keeping all our branches open until at least 2026. We also have a branch manager in every branch, since for many there is no substitute for physical reassurance."

The survey involved over 2,000 folk from across Britain during December 2023.
