Ant McPartlin told off by ITV bosses after couple win record-breaking £1million

Ant McPartlin has revealed why he got a ticking off from Limitless bosses over the weekend.

The ITV game show saw two contestants bagging the biggest prize in the history of the series on Saturday night, with NHS workers Charlie and Helen winning £1million with a question about two rival Britpop bands.

The husband and wife team remained calm when presented with the £1million question, "2024 marks how many years since Blur beat Oasis to the UK number one spot with the song Country House", thanks to Charlie remembering the release dates from his time at university.

However, one person who didn't remain calm as Charlie and Helen cashed in a life-changing amount of money was Ant and his co-host Declan Donnelly.

After Helen and Charlie cashed out at £1million, thanks to being unsure of an answer about Nasa's Perseverance Rover on Mars, Ant and Dec both jumped for joy as the new millionaires embraced - with Ant even mounting a desk on the stage at one point during his celebrations.

"It was quite a chunk, so it was a real gamble," Ant said of Charlie and Helen's epic win, before admitting his celebration landed him in a bit of hot water. "That's why I jumped on the desk. Even though I did get told off!" Ant went on to compare the electric atmosphere in the studio to other memorable TV moments, saying: "We've been involved thankfully in some gloriously epic Saturday night TV. The Will and Gareth Pop Idol final, Susan Boyle and Diversity on BGT. The atmosphere in the studio was as electric as those!"

Dec added humorously: "Ant nearly broke the desk! We're gonna have to take that of their winnings." The winning couple, Helen and Charlie, said it felt surreal to land the win. They said: "We both feel incredibly lucky to have had the opportunity to be on the show, and then even luckier that we got the right question at the right time and that we have walked away with the money. If we can do it then I'm sure others will be able to win even more in the future."

Speaking ahead of the second series of Limitless premiering earlier this month, Ant and Dec hinted at Charlie and Helen's epic win - joking their success on the show almost left ITV bankrupt. Ant added: "We're so happy that Limitless Win has been such a hit with the viewers, we love making it. It's such a thrilling and emotional roller coaster of a show we can't wait to make more."
