Amber Davies has revealed her mum “nearly had a heart attack’ when she told her she was one of the celeb’s on this year’s Dancing on Ice.

The 27-year-old shot to fame on Love Island, winning the show in 2017 with then-boyfriend Kem Cetinay. But these days you’re more likely to find her performing in London’s West End, as the singer and dancer is currently starring as Julia Roberts’ character Vivian in Pretty Woman: The Musical.

While Amber admits to being “a bit of a daredevil’ who would love to get the headbanger move out of the way in week one, her family were less than enthusiastic about her stint on the ITV show, which also counts S Club’s Hannah Spearritt, boxer Ricky Hatton, Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney and Eddie ‘the Eagle’ Edwards in the 2024 line-up.

She shared: “My mum nearly had a heart attack, because obviously when you sign up to a skating show there is danger involved. And with me being on stage every day, I think there were just alarm bells in her head and like, ‘Oh my God, this could go terribly wrong. But I just think if you have that narrative throughout life, you’ll never do anything. I want to do this. I know my body well enough to look myself mentally and physically.”

Amber’s comments came before she suffered an accident during an intense training session that left her in tears. Medics were called after Amber, who is partnered with pro skater Simon Senecal, tore her quad muscle.

She revealed she had to undergo physio during the gruelling training schedule to be able to make it to the live shows, which start tonight. Opening up on the “painful” injury, Amber said: "I had a tear at the top of my quad. It was from off-ice training, but we'd been on the ice for two and a half hours. When you're on the ice it's all about being down in your knees, so by the end of the session, your legs and bum are burning.

"We'd come off and thought, 'Let's just use this time and do a couple of lifts so we can put them on the ice in a different session'. As Simon lifted me up, the top of my quad popped. It was so, so painful. We had to call the medic, I had to have physio every morning."

Turning the experience into a positive, Amber added: “But it kind of made things real for me, like oh my gosh injuries can definitely happen and will happen. I surprised myself because sometimes when things happen I can retract but I didn't, I stayed calm and I carried on going."

*Dancing on Ice starts on ITV tonight at 6.30pm or catch up on ITVX
