Cops shoot dog dead as panic breaks out on street after it 'killed another pet'

Armed officers have shot and killed a dog on a West London street after reports it had mauled another dog to death.

Cops were called to the street in Greenford on Sunday morning to reports of an out of control dog. Distressing video filmed from the upstairs window of a house shows officers close in on the animal and shoot it before it hobbles away.

The clip - which Mirror Online is not publishing - has been viewed more than 99,000 times since it was posted on X, formerly Twitter, this afternoon. The Metropolitan Police has asked people to refrain from sharing it.

The force has confirmed officers were called to Queens Avenue, Greenford, late Sunday morning where the dog was destroyed. It's not clear what breed of dog it was, although it does not appear to have been a bulldog type.

A Met spokesperson from the Ealing police team said: “We were called at 10:39am on Jan 14 to a report of a dog out of control having killed another dog in Queens Ave, Greenford. Officers attended and took the decision to destroy the dog at the scene in order to prevent it from causing further serious harm.”

The spokesperson added: “We know that this will have been upsetting for those present. We do ask that footage of the incident isn’t shared.” No one has been arrested in relation to the incident.

Residents and pedestrians in the Greenford area are advised to exercise caution and remain vigilant while the authorities work to resolve the situation. Further updates on the incident are expected as the investigation progresses.

The shooting comes as new legislation is set to come in banning ownership of XL Bully breeds after the dogs were linked to a spate of attacks in recent months, including fatal maulings. The new laws come into force on January 31, and anyone who owns an XL Bully must apply to the government's exemption scheme paying a £92.40 fee.
