A 13-year-old boy has been charged in connection with an alleged assault that forced a Glasgow school into lockdown and left a 14-year-old in hospital.

Lourdes Secondary School in Cardonald was locked down by police shortly before 2pm on Friday afternoon. Police Scotland previously confirmed a teenage boy was taken to hospital for treatment after reportedly being attacked on a footpath.

Pictures from the scene showed a cordon in place while officers carried out enquiries in the area. On Sunday, police confirmed a male youth is due in court at a later date. A force spokesperson said: "We received a report that a 14-year-old boy had been assaulted on Kirriemuir Avenue, Glasgow, around 1.55pm on Friday, 12 January, 2024.

"He was taken to hospital for treatment. A 13-year-old boy has been charged in connection with the incident. He is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court at a later date. A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal."

A spokesman for Glasgow City Council told GlasgowLive: "School staff acted swiftly to an incident outside the school grounds today and emergency services attended. It would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage during the police investigation."
