Dancing on Ice's Amber Davies receives medical attention after 'painful' injury

Amber Davies has been attended to by medics to assist her after a painful injury sustained while training for Dancing On Ice.

The 27-year-old former Love Islander turned West End star has been putting in the hours ready for the ITV ice-skating competition which launches tonight. During an intense training session away , Amber was brought to tears as she needed the help of medics after tearing her quad.

The former reality star, who is partnered with professional skater Simon Senecal for the new series, had to undergo physiotherapy after the injury during the gruelling training schedule. Amber said that the injury was "painful" as she open up on the details about how it happened.

"I had a tear at the top of my quad, It was from off-ice training but we'd been on the ice for two and a half hours. When you're on the ice it's all about being down in your knees, so by the end of the session, your legs and bum are burning.

"We'd come off and thought, 'let's just use this time and do a couple of lifts so we can put them on the ice in a different session'. As Simon lifted me up, the top of my quad popped," explained the theatre star. "It was so, so painful. We had to call the medic, I had to have physio every morning."

Taking a silver lining from the cloud that had come over her preparation for the show, Amber continued: "But it kind of made things real for me, like oh my gosh injuries can definitely happen and will happen. I surprised myself because sometimes when things happen I can retract but I didn't, I stayed calm and I carried on going."

Fortunately, there was no long-term damage as it "wasn't too much of a big tear", but it still required Amber to have two to three weeks of recovery. After winning Love Island in 2017 with then-boyfriend Kem Cetinay, Amber has forged quite a career on the West End, taking on starring roles in 9 to 5: The Musical , before going on to star in Bring It On: The Musical, Back to the Future: The Musical and Pretty Woman.

This has led to Amber needing to learn dance routines but she said that these techniques have been of little use to her when she steps onto the ice. She revealed: "I had to scrap all my dancing technique because everything on ice is down, bent knees and your weight forward. The only aspect I've been able to add is the performance, from my neck up. I think that's going to be my saving grace because my skating skills are okay."
