There was panic on The One Show as television presenter Bradley Walsh almost tumbled to the floor as the green sofa he was perched on fell apart.

The 63-year-old host of The Chase was featured on the easy-viewing BBC evening show on Friday alongside his 26-year-old son Barney as they are co-hosts of the revived show Gladiators. The lads were on the BBC evening show which was presented on Friday by 46-year-old Alex Jones and 30-year-old Roman Kemp - while comedian Alan Carr, 47, TV judge Amanda Holden, 52, and 59-year-old actor Robson Green also joined the father and son duo on the sofa.

While fans will be able to see Bradley and Barney presiding over daring challenges on Gladiators, Bradley went through something of a trial himself on live TV. He was perched on the very edge of the sofa when disaster struck as the ottoman section of the furniture became dislodged and fell off.

Alex and Roman gasped as their guest risk falling flat on the floor, with Roman desperately shouting: “Oh watch!” Barney chimed in, saying as his father stumbled away from him: “He’s gone. That wasn’t in the script…”

Bradley was able to steady himself before he hit the floor, and then complained to producers off camera: "You've never fixed that! You've never fixed that ever!" Robson then joked: "The good thing is, no one saw!" Bradley then huffed: “No. No one saw."

The unexpected moment was, of course, noticed by those watching from home - with many taking to X to comment on the mishap. One viewer wrote online: "Graham Norton would do well to have that couch! #TheOneShow." And another wrote: "Bradley Walsh falling off his chair on #TheOneShow" alongside a crying-with-laughter emoji.

TV fans were divided on the fact that Bradley and Barney are hosting yet another show together - with many arguing the set up reeks of nepotism; suggesting Barney only has his presenting career thanks to the coattails of his father that he gets to ride on. On unimpressed fan grumbled on X: “Good to see nepotism is alive and well in the industry #Gladiators #theoneshow."

Another complained: "Barney only got the job cause his dad #Gladiators #theoneshow." And another complained that the pair are not the only father and son duo that regularly appear on TV, writing: "Maybe just me but the TV nepotism really grates me, Bradley Walsh and his son, Jack Whitehall and his dad, Roman kemp getting leg up from his dad, the list goes on #theoneshow."

While another uninspired viewer complained: "Bradley and Barney are on TV far too much #theoneshow." But others were happy to see the pair united again to host another TV show - having already won over fans with their road trip series Bradley Walsh & Son: Breaking Dad.

The fan commented online: “I'm really happy that Bradley & Barney Walsh will be presenting Gladiators. Especially Barney, because he is a real talent & is being held back by his father in his meritorious TV career. #TheOneShow."
