Arsenal have mixed success when it comes to the January transfer window.

The Gunners have regularly invested in their squad when winter comes around. Amid a fresh battle for the Premier League title, a few deals have been touted.

Ivan Toney continues to be linked with a switch to the Emirates Stadium, while a few other names have featured in the gossip columns. Mikel Arteta might need to take a look at the Gunners’ previous business in the January window for some inspiration or potentially, a word of warning.

Take a look at the Gunners' last 12 January arrivals and find out how they have done since:

January 2023

Leandro Trossard

The Gunners’ first deal 12 months ago, they swooped for the services of former Brighton winger Trossard. They paid £27m for his signature.

He has gone on to make 46 appearances for Arsenal since, 22 have been starts. His productivity in that time has been impressive with Trossard having scored seven goals and notched 12 assists.

Jakub Kiwior

Just a few days after Trossard’s arrival, the Gunners followed up that signing with a swoop for Spezia defender Jakub Kiwior. The Polish centre-back was intended to bolster the club’s defensive options.

He has made 23 appearances for the Gunners since then and scored his first goal on the final day of last season. Kiwior has been linked with a loan exit this month but it appears unlikely that the Gunners will let him go.

Jorginho

Signed from London rivals Chelsea, Jorginho was intended to add more quality and steal into Arsenal’s midfield. He made 16 appearances during his first six months at the Emirates, his contributions to the Gunners’ memorable victory against Aston Villa will live long in the memory.

Jorginho has slightly fallen down the pecking order this term, with just four Premier League starts to his name.

January 2022

Lino Sousa

An arrival from West Brom, the Portuguese-born defender has yet to be afforded any senior minutes for Arsenal. He has gone on to become a key member of the Gunners’ youth team, while he also featured on the bench in the recent FA Cup defeat to Liverpool

Auston Trusty

Another signing intended to be for the future, the American defender arrived from MLS side Colorado Rapids. He returned to the club on-loan.

He was also sent out on a further loan move to Birmingham City before a permanent move to Sheffield United earlier this season. Trusty left without making an appearance for Arsenal, while he has started each of the last 13 Premier League games for the Blades.

January 2021

Omar Rekik

The 22-year-old was the Gunners’ only signing of the 2021 January transfer window with his move from Hertha Berlin. In an effort to earn more experience, he has had loan spells with Sparta Rotterdam and Wigan and is yet to earn a senior appearance for Arsenal.

January 2020

Pablo Mari

Currently with Italian side Monza, Spanish defender Pablo Mari joined the Gunners on loan from Flamengo to bolster the club’s defensive options. After just two Premier League appearances, it was a surprise to see the club activate a permanent deal to sign him.

Mari stayed with Arsenal for a further season before joining Udinese on loan. He stayed in Italy with Monza and was involved in a terrifying stabbing incident ahead of an emotional return to the pitch.

Cedric

Initially moving to Arsenal on loan from Southampton, he made just five appearances during his debut campaign. It was a surprise then when Arsenal chose to sign Cedric on a free transfer at the end of his Saints deal.

The Portuguese right-back has gone on to make over 60 appearances for the club but now looks to have little future with the Gunners. He joined Fulham on loan last term and has made just two appearances this season. Cedric’s contract expires at the end of the season.

January 2019

Denis Suarez

One of the more infamous January arrivals at Arsenal, the midfielder penned a loan deal with Arsenal in January 2019. He arrived at the club injured and made just six appearances for the Gunners.

Suarez has gone on to play for Celta Vigo, Espanyol and now finds himself back with Villarreal but he has made just five appearances this season.

January 2018

Konstantinos Mavropanos

A bargain signing from PAS Giannina, Mavropanos was intended to be one for the future. He broke into the side at the end of that season but rounded off his first campaign by being sent off vs Leicester.

A loan spell at Nurnberg came before a switch to Stuttgart, where the Greek defender moved permanently. He shone in the Bundesliga and sealed a move to West Ham earlier this season. Mavropanos came back to haunt Arsenal after scoring his first goal for the Hammers against Arsenal.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Part of the infamous Alexis Sanchez swap deal, the Armenian playmaker moved to Arsenal after an indifferent spell with Manchester United. His stint with Arsenal was arguably even worse.

He scored just nine goals in 59 outings for the Gunners before a loan move to Roma. Mkhitaryan rediscovered his form with the Italian side and did enough to earn a permanent move. He now finds himself with Inter Milan.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Formerly the Gunners’ record signing, Aubameyang arrived to plenty of acclaim in January 2018 in a £56m deal from Borussia Dortmund. His goalscoring talent did not dwindle in North London having scored 92 goals in 163 appearances.

He was stripped of the Arsenal captaincy after a disciplinary infringement and the striker was jettisoned to Barcelona two years ago. After just six months in Catalonia, he returned to the Premier League with Chelsea but was sold to Marseille after a disastrous solitary season.
