Rishi Sunak has put us in dangerous territory by joining the American-led military operation against Houthi rebels.

The airstrikes were launched to prevent the Iran-backed, Yemen-based militia from carrying out further raids on international shipping in the Red Sea but the cost of protecting international trade must be weighed against the danger of escalating the conflict now simmering in the Middle East.

Houthi retaliation is inevitable. The air-strikes by Allied forces are also likely to inspire Iran-funded rebel forces in Iraq and Syria to step up their attacks on American bases. Has the Prime Minister considered the danger of Britain being dragged into a prolonged war fought on multiple fronts?

The roots of this anger and unrest lie in the rubble of Gaza, of course. Israel had the right to defend itself after the October 7 massacre but its brutal and disproportionate response has fed the sense of grievance among Muslim communities across the Middle East.

If US and UK leaders really want stability in the region, they should put all their efforts into securing a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

From the very beginning, Post Office bosses refused to take any responsibility for the failure of the Horizon IT system. Sub-postmasters who raised complaints were threatened, bullied and prosecuted.

Journalists trying to expose this miscarriage of justice claim they were misled, intimidated and lied to. The Post Office should be doing everything it can to help the public inquiry into the scandal but it has been failing to hand over documents in time, or leaving it to the last minute to submit requested material.

This foot-dragging is another insult to the hundreds of workers they so badly wronged.
