Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has hinted that he believes the Miami Dolphins will beat the Kansas City Chiefs in the wild-card round this weekend.

Allen, 27, shared this belief with Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa after leading the Bills to a 21-14 victory over their AFC East rivals in their regular season finale. That win secured Buffalo their fourth consecutive division title.

It also ensured they are the second-seed in the AFC and will host the seventh-seeded Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday afternoon rather than the Chiefs. But despite Kansas City being the defending champions and the third seed behind the Bills, Allen is not expecting to see them in the playoffs.

After the game, while still on the Hard Rock Stadium field after their 21-14 comeback win on the road in Miami, the quarterback seemed confident about both teams' chances in the postseason.

In a postgame embrace with Tagovailoa, he said: "We'll see you guys again, huh?" The Dolphins quarterback met that with: "Always fun competing against you, brother," before Allen reiterated: "I'll see you in a couple of weeks, yeah?"

Tagovailoa did not reply to the comments despite the insistence of his opponent. Allen made it apparent he is backing Miami to win over the Chiefs on Saturday night because if both the Bills and Dolphins triumph in the wild-card weekend, they will face each other again a fortnight after last week's meeting in the divisional round.

In-form Buffalo are big favourites to beat the Steelers, especially with the absence of Pittsburgh's injured star pass rusher T.J. Watt. But backing Miami is a bold call considering their injury issues.

Running back Raheem Mostert and wide receiver Jaylen Waddle are questionable to play because of injuries. Without those offensive weapons over the last two games, the Dolphins have lost back-to-back games, with the other a 56-19 beating by the Baltimore Ravens.

Meanwhile, starting cornerback Xavien Howard is ruled out with a foot injury. Acknowledging their untimely dip in performance, Tagovailoa told reporters this week: "I think a lot of the guys, we all want to do it right. It just sucks when we're not able to with the work that we put in.

"But it's a new season, and that's how we look at it. New season, new opportunity, and we can still get to where we want to get after this week."

Contrastingly to his on-field remarks, Allen is much more coy when speaking with reporters. "At the end of the day, this is fun, this is cool, and never say no to winning a division, but the only thing that it solidifies is a home game and one more game," he said.

"So it doesn't mean anything if we go out there next week and don't do our job, so we got to find a way to put our best foot forward and go find a victory next week."
