All couples have their rows sometimes, and despite the picture-perfect impression that Prince William and Kate give off when they attend public engagements in the course of their duty as working royals, they are reportedly no exception to this rule.

A royal author has claimed that there is one word in particular that Prince William uses when he is talking to his wife to indicate that he is angry at her, although the seemingly innocuous word would likely go unnoticed by anyone around them as a signal that there is trouble ahead for the couple, even if Kate herself would know immediately.

The author Tom Quinn claimed in his book Gilded Youth: An Intimate History of Growing Up in the Royal Family that when Prince William is angry with his wife he will use one simple word to indicate his displeasure: darling.

Quinn explained that palace insiders had revealed to him that the couple regularly use light-hearted nicknames for one another, like 'Baldly' for William or 'Duchess of Dolittle' - a long-reported jokey nickname regarding the fact that Kate undertakes fewer engagements than other members of the Royal Family.

In their good moments, William is also alleged by Quinn to call Kate 'babe' or 'Babykins' but when he is "cross" with her he is more likely to call her darling. As this is one of the "signs of his annoyance" with his wife, his tone of voice would also likely change in these circumstances, Quinn claimed.

The author alleged that the couple is prone to occasional but fierce rows, during which they may even throw things at one another, but he noted that any conflict between the Waleses is likely to be shortlived.

He puts this down to Kate's ability to remain "level-headed. She's the one who will pour oil on troubled waters and go, 'Let's not stir things up.'" The expert also notes that "Kate is an appeaser by instinct and William always gives way" which means that the pair easily make up when confrontation arises in their marriage.

The Waleses also are reported to have a firm "no-shouting" rule when it comes to their children, and they will instead remove whichever of their kids are misbehaving from the situation and talk about whatever issue has arisen with them calmly.
