Meghan Markle's one-word remark about royal tradition met with 'yawning silence'

Meghan Markle caused an awkward silence as she and her husband Prince Harry reunited with the Royal Family for a special ceremony.

Just days after returning from their luxury honeymoon in the Mediterranean in 2018, the couple stepped back into their royal duties and attended Trooping the Colour to celebrate the late Queen Elizabeth's official birthday. Despite already undertaking a number of royal engagements, this was Meghan's first time on the Buckingham Palace balcony.

The Duchess of Sussex looked amazed as she was seen happily chatting to Princess Kate and the then-Duchess of Cornwall Camilla at the ceremony. However, Harry has revealed things grew tense when Meghan revealed what she thought about her first Trooping the Colour.

Princess Kate was eager to know what her sister-in-law was thinking, but was apparently expecting more than Meghan's one-word response: "Colourful." Writing in his tell-all memoir Spare, Harry said: "A yawning silence threatened to swallow us all whole."

Elsewhere in the book, Harry claimed Princess Kate and his brother Prince William "stereotyped" Meghan, with the Prince of ales branding her "difficult". The Sussexes relationship with the Royal Family never improved and they stepped down from The Firm in 2020.

The couple then moved to Montecito, California, after snapping up an £11.8million mansion. However, it's been reported the couple are now hoping to move to a cheaper £3million in Malibu.

It's thought the couple are planning to buy a plot of land to build a 10,000 square foot home. It's believed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are eyeing up a move to Malibu in their hopes of making it in Hollywood. Currently trips in rush hour from their Montecito home to Los Angeles can take more than three hours. If the couple were to move to Malibu, it would take just 40 minutes.

Meghan also has fond childhood memories of being in Malibu. Her step-brother, Thomas Markle Jnr, said she enjoyed plenty of fun beach dates at The Will Rogers Beach, near her Woodland Hills family home.
