Fans of The Traitors have uncovered the fact Paul Gorton has featured on reality TV before - starring on a disastrous episode of Deal Or No Deal.

The 36-year-old business manager from Manchester has been leaving fans on the edge of their seats as he has been unmasked to viewers of the BBC show as one of the four traitors playing to steal the jackpot prize. But TV fans think Paul has reason to be devious - having been denied a big money prize in the past.

Footage on social media has emerged showing Paul competing in a past episode of Deal Or No Deal - back when the show was hosted by 75-year-old Noel Edmonds when the show aired on Channel 4 from 2005 until 2016. In the clip, Noel can be seen aiding Paul in opening his final box of the game - and uncovering if he has won a huge money prize, or a very disappointing ten pence.

The footage shows Noel declare: “I didn’t influence you choosing that box in the beginning and now here I am involved in whether or not you are going away… oh for goodness sake.” Inching closer, Noel then says, as the box pops open: “Let’s have a look, this is what you’ve now got. 10p! Says it right to the end, isn’t it?”

The live studio audience erupts into wails of disappointment while Paul himself throws up his arms in disappointment as his game comes to an end. Now reality show fanatics think this horrifying disappointment for Paul has fuelled his dark turn on the new BBC show.

One fan wrote on X: “Paul from #TheTraitors was on Deal or no deal and won 10p. No wonder he's evil.” Another agreed, writing: “Villain origin story.” Fans of The Traitors are rooting for Paul’s downfall as he has escaped detection from the Faithful members of the game. However, he is not the first star of the current second season to have appeared on Deal Or No Deal.

ITV revived the iconic game show last year - with new epsiodes being broadcast in the week and with Stephen Mulhern as host. Viewers watching The Traitors this month were distracted by a contestant named Kyra Johnson as she looked familiar.

Before long, TV fans realised she had competed on ITV’s version of Deal Or No Deal in November last year - just six weeks before she appeared in the cast of the ITV show. And now there is a theory emerging that the casting team of The Traitors is simply mining old game shows for contestants.

One viewer wrote in light of Paul’s link to the show: “Kyra was also on this seasons deal or no deal.” But others complained they are sick of seeing the same faces on multiple shows, with one writing: “Why has everyone been on Deal or no deal” and another wrote: “It’s just the same contestants recycled on every show…”

ITV also revived Big Brother last year - and TV fans recognised a contestant named Kerry Riches from being a Deal Or No Deal contestant years previously. One TV fan complains on X: “Everyone on British reality TV has been on deal or no deal lol.”
