Following his axe from BBC Question of Sport, Paddy McGuinness is now set to reprise his show Tempting Fortune for a second series.

Creators of the show have finally started the ball rolling for another series of the trek challenge programme, despite the fact that that Channel 4, who commissioned the first series, are yet to re-commission the show.

However, all does not appear to be lost as Channel 4's deliberation means that another channel, or streaming platform, can also snap it up. But this now means that Paddy, 50, will be back on our screens after he was axed from A Question of Sport last year, as part of the BBC's schedule shake-up.

The sports show was cancelled in December last year after 50 years, on the back of dwindling ratings and a lack of interest on iPlayer. The show underwent a revamp in 2021, when Paddy was called in to host the quiz as a replacement for legendary presenter Sue Barker. The former British tennis player left the show after 24 years in 2020 and new team captains, Ugo Monye and Sam Quek, joined the show to replace Matt Dawson and Phil Tufnell.

When appearing on Stick to Football's quiz earlier this week, which included former footballer Gary Neville, Paddy said: "Absolutely devastated (it got cancelled). It's like in management, football, you go in, do your best, and that's that. But telly, you can be involved with a show and it'll run and run, or it'll finish and you move on, that's just the nature of the beast."

He added: "But when Question of Sport, when they stopped it - and honestly think whether it's captains, me, whatever it is, whatever the reason, they say it's budget stuff, but it's all kind of stuff - I just think, it's going to come back.Because I'm a fan of it." Speaking about his love of the show, he said that he had been "weaned on it from an early age."

He then went on to say: "It's one of those ones where it's a heritage show - it's like Match of the Day, I know other football shows are available - but there are certain shows you watch and you go, "god". When I got that call I never hesitated. I loved it, and I really hope, whether it's me or anyone else, it comes back."

And discussing his quick return to TV, an insider told The Sun: “He’ll be breathing a deep sigh of relief that Tempting Fortune did well when it first aired and that it’s been deemed worthy of a sequel. Paddy went from being on our screens regularly to virtually disappearing in 2023, with this show the one exception. Notably, it also saw him come full circle by returning to Channel 4, which is where his career started out on comedy Phoenix Nights. But it remains to be seen where and when any second series of Tempting Fortune ends up airing."
