Drew Barrymore got emotional as she paid tribute to her co-star Adam Sandler.

The Hollywood actress shared a clip to Instagram, telling her followers that she skipped her yoga class so she could sit in and watch The Wedding Singer, which had surprisingly come on TV. She was close to tears as she described meeting Adam for the first time.

"We made such a good movie, I love you so much," she said in a shaky voice. "Happy New Year." Drew then added the caption: "I love you so much @adamsandler.

"The Wedding Singer came on my TV as I was getting ready to leave the house and I had to take in this moment and watch it," she concluded before fans flocked to the comments to share their love of the 1998 rom-com. One wrote: "You and Adam together always makes for a good movie. If you did another I’d watch it!"

"I always wonder if actors stop and watch their shows when they come on TV. Now I know! You’re the best by the way!" a second added. Another typed: "Drew Barrymore crying at herself crying is so meta. I think it makes me love you more."

"That masterpiece always has a place in my heart. You made me wanna take DVD out of the box and watch it again," a fourth put. In The Wedding Singer, Adam's character Robbie Hart, a wedding singer, meets Julia (Drew), a waitress, he promises to sing at her marriage, but unaware of what destiny has in store, the two plan on spending their lives with separate people.

It marked the start of Adam and Drew's work relationship, with the pair going on to star in Blended, Isn't It Romantic and 50 First Dates, which director Peter Segal revealed was meant to have a different ending. He told Entertainment Weekly that in there is no boat in the original script.

Instead, Lucy wakes up in bed looking at a mural on her ceiling which tells the story of her accident and her life. He said: "As her eyes pan from left to right, she turns to see Henry lying next to her in bed, and in this version, they didn’t have children.

"It was a mural that she painted that, unlike the mural in her father's garage, which they painted over each day so she had a blank canvas to work on, this one Henry left up so that when she woke up in the morning she could see a pictorial timeline of her last day to reintroduce her.

"So by the time she finished panning with her eyes from left to right, she would come to rest on Henry, and unlike earlier in the movie when she woke up in bed with him and he was a stranger again and she screamed and had a reaction, it was a way of reintroducing her to her life again.

"And we thought that was fine, but it wasn’t until the idea came up of completing Henry’s journey and seeing him fulfill his dream of studying walruses in their natural habitat, the idea came up, well, what if Lucy, her father, and their child were all there with him, and that just seemed really exciting and very emotional to me."
