A Place in the Sun fans horrified by couple's 'painfully ugly' home makeover

A Place in the Sun viewers were left highly unimpressed with the renovations one couple made to their gorgeous home in France and have dubbed their interior vision a "hideous eyesore".

In a bid to celebrate the 23rd anniversary of the Channel 4 reality show being on our screens, telly bosses have created a spin-off show titled What Happened Next which sees the camera crew revisit some of the most memorable properties throughout the years.

The latest episode saw presenter Danni Menzies revisit Jill and Paul's exotic home in Brittany to see what changes they have made since first appearing on the Channel 4 show. Although viewers were eager to see another glorious transformation, they were left baffled by what they discovered the couple had done to their French haven over the years, with some even calling their home "ugly".

Six years ago, Jill and Paul set out on a mission to find their dream destination home, and presenter Danni was the one who helped them secure the humble abode they had been wishing for. The couple shared that they have been happily living in the property ever since, and have made it their dream home. However, eagle-eyed viewers were left completely baffled by the changes they have made over the six-year period.

In particular, viewers were highly unimpressed with Jill and Paul's living room and branded it a "hideous eyesore". Six years ago, viewers watched as Jill and Paul fell in love with the spacious room and large dining area complete with a feature wall made of original stone. The wholesome nook also featured a small stove which made the area feel cosy and homely.

However, in an unexpected turn of events, the couple unveiled the major changes they have made to the space since. In order to jazz the place up and add a pop of colour, Jill and Paul decided to paint the walls blue and add their own touches to it - turning it from a calm and cosy dining area into a living room.

In place of the chill atmosphere, the couple added their own colourful couches and an unorganised bookshelf to make it feel more like home. It wasn't long before viewers flocked to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their reactions as they insisted the space was much nicer before the drastic changes were made to the room.

One viewer complained: "Bloody hell, it looked better before," while another agreed: "Why ruin such a lovely and authentic space by adding bright colours and clutter. Not a fan."

"They’ve managed to make a right f**k up of that," another complained. "BLUE WALLS? In a cosy space? What a way to absolutely obliterate a living room. Blue walls...," someone else echoed. Another Channel 4 viewer wrote: "They've managed to turn a lovely thing so ugly. So, so, ugly."

Someone else branded it a "hideous eyesore", and another viewer quipped: "Not much point in revisiting these properties if they're gonna be a million times worse than when they first found them. Shocking."
