The freezing cold temperatures of January will inevitably have us all reaching for the takeaway menus, but if you're trying to save money after the festive season, we have a recipe that will taste even better.

Celebrity chef has shown his YouTube audience how to make his version of a chicken stir-fry with rice noodles that will give takeaways a run for their money. "Real fast food should always grab your attention with big, gutsy flavours, fantastic aromas, and be immediately satisfying," Gordon says. "It should also be easy to make and quick to cook."

Whipping up a quick and easy chicken stir-fry, he adds, "some of the best street food I've ever eaten was in Asia - every one of those little markets was filled with delicious food that all centred around an Asian staple. Noodles."

So, here’s Gordon Ramsay's recipe that will leave both your stomach and your wallet feeling satisfied.

To make the chicken stir-fry, you'll need:

  • 200g wide, flat rice noodles

  • 250g chicken breast fillet

  • Olive oil, for stir-frying

  • Two garlic cloves, peeled and finely sliced

  • 200g broccoli, sliced

  • Two tablespoons of soy sauce, to taste

  • Two eggs, beaten

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • Lime wedges to serve

  • First, soak your rice noodles in a bowl of hot water for 12 to 15 minutes to soften.

  • Grab a wok, or a large pan with deep sides, and heat it up. Meanwhile, "butterfly" the chicken breast by cutting it in half horizontally, then gently flatten the chicken with a rolling pin. Then, slice the chicken into thin strips.

  • Finely slice the garlic; as Gordon explains, "the thinner the garlic, the crispier it gets".

  • Slice the broccoli.

  • Heat up the olive oil in the pan until it "just starts" to smoke, then add the chicken, and season it with salt and pepper. Once the chicken begins to cook, add the garlic in until it gets "really nice and crispy".

  • Add the broccoli into the wok, then add the soy sauce and stir a few times before putting the chicken and veggie mix into a bowl.

  • Clean off your pan, heat up more olive oil, then cook two beaten eggs in the wok until just cooked.

  • Add the drained noodles, then the chicken and broccoli, before mixing the entire dish so the egg is incorporated.

  • Finish the dish off with a squeeze of fresh lime.

And there you have it, a stir-fry Gordon Ramsay describes as "simple and delicious", that will keep you warm and full during the colder months.
