Speaking to BeIN Sport post-match, the Gunners boss revealed: "At the moment it doesn't look realistic. My job is to improve the players we have."

Toney alternative keeps up stunning form

Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres bagged a hat-trick of asssits on Friday as his side hammered Estoril 5-1 to consolidate top spot in Liga Portugal.

Sweden international Gyokeres, 25, left Championship side Coventry last summer for around £20million and has been linked with a return to England by joining Arsenal.

ICYMI: Toney breaks silence amid Arsenal links

Ivan Toney caught up with Mirror Football's Darren Lewis for an exclusive interview ahead of his long-awaited comeback.

The Brentford striker, 27, has been banned for the last eight months after being charged with 262 breaches of the FA's gambling restrictions, and now he's being tipped to join Arsenal in a big-money January move.

Kiwior's future under threat?

There've been plenty of rumblings around the future of Jakub Kiwior in recent weeks and his own goal against Liverpool yesterday won't have helped his case for staying in North London.

The Polish defender, signed last January from Italian side Spezia, headed Trent Alexander-Arnold's corner into his own net and was substituted by Mikel Arteta soon after.

Kiwior, 23, has been tipped to join AC Milan and Napoli back in Serie A amid interest from Premier League side Brentford and and La Liga strugglers Sevilla.

Arsenal 'expect' to complete Raya deal

Arsenal are reportedly expecting to complete a permanent deal for David Raya despite his rollercoaster start to life at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners signed the Brentford stopper on-loan in the summer with a £27m option to buy. Raya has since made a few high-profile errors.

However, according to Sky Sports, the Gunners are anticipated to activate their permanent option to buy him.

Who do you want Arsenal to sign in January?

Let us know in the comments below!

Arteta issues Partey update

Mikel Arteta has explained why Thomas Partey has not made Ghana's squad for the Africa Cup of Nations as he issued a bleak update on the midfielder's fitness.

"It was about common sense," the Spaniard claimed. "He had a long term injury. He really wanted to be with his national team but he’s still far from training for the team and it didn’t make sense for him to be involved."

Arsenal after Onana

Arsenal have held 'intensive talks' with Everton over the transfer of Amadou Onana, according to reports in Belgium.

Onana, a Belgium international, has flourished in the Premier League since joining Everton in August 2022.

Arsenal's desire to sign a new central midfielder is no secret, but the 22-year-old won't come cheap.

Everton have slapped a £90million price tag on the player.

Arsenal plot move for Turkish star

Arsenal are reportedly interested in a move for Fenerbahce star Ferdi Kadioglu this month.

That is according to HITC, who suggest that the Gunners are attracted to the defender's attacking abilities. The 24-year-old has made 23 appearances for the side this season and has scored twice.

Arsenal interested in Solanke deal

Arsenal are reportedly considering Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke if they attempt to sign a striker this month.

According to the Daily Star, Eddie Nketiah could potentially leave the Emirates Stadium this month. Ivan Toney is among their prime targets.

However, should they fail to get a deal over the line, Solanke could be targeted.

Arteta targets another defender

Arsenal are interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong, according to BILD.

The Gunners want to sign the 23-year-old defender, who is rated at £34million, in the summer.

That's despite their obvious need for a striker, with Arsenal failing to score again on Sunday in the 2-0 loss to Liverpool.

Gabriel Jesus injury update

Gabriel Jesus missed out on the game against Liverpool due to another injury.

Mikel Arteta issued an update on the forward after the game, claiming: "He had some pain in his knee. We have done a scan that shows something."

The Spaniard was also pressed for comment on whether there's any danger that Jesus' injury could be worse than first feared, but Arteta kept his cards close to his chest as he added: "Hopefully not."

The lack of certainty in the Arsenal manager's assessment will spark fears that the Gunners are left relying on Eddie Nketiah as their only recognised striker for what is a crucial part of the run-in after the winter break.

Arteta's striker admission

Mikel Arteta conceded it "doesn't look realistic" when asked if Arsenal were planning on signing a new striker before the transfer window closes at the end of this month.

Speaking to BeIN sport about the prospect of landing attacking reinforcements, Arteta admitted: "At the moment it doesn't look realistic.

"My job is to improve the players we have."

Ivan Toney has long been the subject of rumours linking him with a move to the Emirates, but it now appears Arsenal are being priced out of a deal for the Brentford talisman.

Thomas Frank's side are rumoured to want as much as £100m for their star man, which is certainly not a fee the Gunners could meet in the middle of the season.

Who could Arsenal target Toney join?

Ivan Toney is the name on everyone's lips with the January transfer window in full swing.

The Brentford star is set to return to action this month after serving an FA ban for betting offences.

And despite being stuck on the sidelines for the last eight months, stock in the 27-year-old striker has only risen as Premier League clubs scramble to land themselves a proven goalscorer.

England international Toney hit 20 goals in the Premier League for his club last season - one more than Mohamed Salah and behind only Erling Haaland and Harry Kane.

Toney has made no secret of his desire to play at the top level and hinted in the summer he'd be open to leaving Brentford at the earliest opportunity.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank is adamant his star man will not be leaving this month unless the club receive an "unbelievable" offer.

But if not in January, the Bees could find it difficult to keep hold of their talisman beyond the summer, with Toney likely to have his pick of the clubs, with six Premier League sides in the frame...

Ivan Toney exclusive

To sit with Ivan Toney at his home last week was to chill with a striker keeping his head as the noise around him reaches a crescendo.

After eight months that for him must have seemed like an eternity, here was a man focused on the things he could control.

A man dreaming of a match winning goal against Nottingham Forest on January 20 and a subsequent momentum that he hopes will lead to this summer’s European Championship after the investigation around his gambling issue ruled him out of the Qatar World Cup.

For some, his refusal to discuss the ways in which he has addressed it will remain an issue.

Others - particularly those with a personal insight - will feel that it is best dealt with away from the media gaze, a day at a time.

The beneficiary of an intense training regime out in America, specially arranged by agents the Stellar Group, 5ft 11in Toney appeared in fantastic physical condition.

Arsenal 'to trigger' Frimpong clause

Arsenal still have plenty of time to do business this window but it appears they're already getting their affairs in order for the summer.

According to BILD, the Gunners are happy to activate the release clause written into the contract of Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong. However, a deal won't go through any time soon.

It is suggested that Arsenal would prefer to wait until the summer to sign him so will not be bolstering their defence in this window in particular.

Arteta makes striker claim

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has admitted it would be 'unrealistic' for the Gunners to sign a new striker this month.

Speaking to BeIN sport about the prospect of landing attacking reinforcements, Arteta admitted: "At the moment it doesn't look realistic. My job is to improve the players we have."

Alan Shearer has torn into Kai Havertz's for his poor finishing during this evening's showdown with Liverpool.

The German forward led the line for the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium but missed a number of presentable chances.

Speaking during the BBC's coverage, Shearer said: "Too much time, far too much time needed. I didn't think he needed a touch.

"It's great pressing again from Declan Rice, and the pass there from Odegaard. You've just got to hit it, there's no need to take a touch there. The pass is soft enough, it's in his way, just go and hit it."
