Gillian Anderson praised by fans for ‘genius’ vagina dress to Golden Globes
Gillian Anderson has been praised by fans for wearing a “genius” dress embroidered with vaginas to the Golden Globes.
The 55-year-old Sex Education star stunned onlookers as she arrived on the red carpet at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Sunday for the celebrity-packed 81st annual awards ceremony.
Gillian looked sensational in the white strapless gown as she posed for photographers, and later, while speaking to reporters, she revealed her dress had been embroidered with dozens of vaginas in a protest against restrictions on female rights.

She told reporters it was embroidered with vaginas (FilmMagic)In a brief interview with Deadline Hollywood, she was asked who designed her dress, prompting Gillian to confess her dress had a cheeky secret. “It has vaginas on it,” she proclaimed, adding that Uruguayan designer Gabriela Hearst had created the show-stopping gown. The stunned reporter laughed, before asking the actress why she had chosen to have vaginas embroidered on it. “For so many reasons. It’s brand-appropriate,” she laughed.

The gorgeous gown, which also featured a raw edging at the bottom of the dress, was intricately covered in embroidered pictures of the female anatomy. According to People, each vagina took over three hours to embroider, and she jokingly told the publication her gown was “covered in peonies”.
Designer Gabriela took to social media to confirm vaginas had been stitched onto the dress, and heaped praise on the award-winning The Crown star. “'Vulvaliciously' chic as always @gilliana. We collaborated with Gillian Anderson on a custom gown for the 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards," she wrote. "Made entirely in New York City, the embroidery was crafted in the garment district and the gown was assembled at the in-house studio. Each motif took approximately 3.5 hours to embroider."
Gillian was dripping in Chopard jewels for the prestigious event, and The Fall star finished off her jaw-dropping look with an 18-carat white gold necklace with a 10-carat pear-shaped yellow diamond and nearly 30 carats of diamonds, 18-carat yellow gold earrings which were covered in yellow diamonds, and an 18-carat white gold bracelet with matching diamond ring.
