Ivan Toney fires message to Gareth Southgate over England hopes for Euro 2024
Ivan Toney is targeting Gareth Southgate’s European Championship squad as he prepares to return to Premier League football next week.
Brentford’s £100million England striker, 27, completes his eight-month ban for breaching betting regulations on Tuesday, January 16. With the Bees four points above the relegation zone, Toney is desperate to help them out of trouble - and remind Southgate of his international credentials.
“That's the aim,” he said. “To try and get back to my form and be involved. We know there are other great strikers around at the moment and they will do so well. But it's up to me to make sure I come straight back firing and put my name in the frame to be looked at.
“It's going to take hard work. Dedication. But, like I said, that's a goal to look towards and being involved in that would be a massive achievement.” Toney missed out on the World Cup in Qatar amid the ongoing investigation into the charges.
But after a punishing training regime out on Nashville, USA, the frontman hit a hat-trick and provided an assist for Brentford’s B-team against Southampton ’s Under-23’s on Saturday. Currently the most sought-after striker in England this month, Toney remains confident of making it out to Germany for his work in a Brentford shirt.

He added: “If somebody's scoring goals and doing well, no matter who they're playing for, it's a great chance to put yourself forward to be in the window to be playing for England.

“I did watch a bit [of the World Cup]. But that was even more painful watching, knowing I could have been involved in that. But what’s done is done. I can’t change anything. Yeah, it was painful, but life is painful. You just have to concentrate on what's in front rather than what's behind."
