Saltburn's Margot Robbie addresses 'disgusting' bathtub and grave scenes

Barry Keoghan's infamous bathtub scene in Saltburn may have shocked fans – but one boss wasn't shocked.

The movie has since set social media alight after it was released on Amazon Prime, with many watching it in the cinema feeling uncomfortable. In one scene, Irish actor Barry Keoghan who plays Oliver Quick attempts to get to know his best friend Felix Catton on a much more personal level.

Saltburn focuses on Oxford University scholarship holder Oliver and his best friend Felix. Throughout the movie, Oliver struggles to fit in with his wealthy peers before becoming infatuated with Felix. But in one scene, written by creator Emerald Fennell, sees Quick's lust for his friend reaches new levels.

After Jacob's character, Felix, finishes pleasuring himself in the bath of his stately home, Oliver quickly dives in and unbeknownst to anybody, rapidly starts slurping up the water, leaving fans completely stunned. But while many were shocked, producer Margot Robbie says she was far from speechless.

In a new interview, Australian-born Margot said: "It didn't feel that shocking in the script, because Emerald immerses you into a world so quickly. She's so masterful at tone and plot; she gets you into it so quickly — you're just immediately like, 'I'm in this world.' So by the time you get to something like the bathtub scene, she's primed you for it.

"She's got you, you're, like, picking at a scab; you're like, 'I can't help myself,' or like popping a pimple: 'I know I shouldn't squeeze but I'm gonna.'" Margot continued, adding that she believed Emerald's script was "intentionally disgusting and satisfying," before going on to say: "I think she wanted you to be equally as disgusted as you are titillated, and equally as shocked as you are by finding that depravity in yourself."

But Margot believes that Fennell managed to get "in the brains" of viewers and branded the odd scene the "watercooler moment" which would have fans talking about it for weeks. Although millions have seen the movie, Jacob Elordi stated that he was afraid to see the response but was admittedly proud of his achievement with the film. Elsewhere, Barry has revealed that the scene which sees him have sex with Felix's grave was completely unscripted.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Fennell said: "I spoke to Barry in the morning. And I just said, 'I don't know, Barry. I think that he would... Unzip' and Barry just said 'Yup'." Barry continued: "She plants seeds, Emerald, you know what I mean? She knows that they're going to grow, these seeds, especially when she plants them with me. But it is a testament to Emerald having that idea and me meeting it with... To be honest, no questions. I was totally on board for it."
