There's nothing cosier than lighting a candle on a dark winter's night. One of the most popular brands is Yankee Candle, which offers a huge range of long-lasting scents to fill your home.

With over 600 fragrances, Yankee Candle has a wide range of seasonal and specialty scented offerings, as well as home and car fragrance products, and candle accents and accessories.

And now, a former employee has shared a little-known in-store policy which means you can get an 'entirely brand new candle for free'!

Taking to her TikTok account, @ashlester, Ashley Lester claimed that Yankee Candle has a 'jar for a jar' policy, which means that even if you've burnt the candle almost to the bottom, you can return to the store and ask for another.

The former Yankee Candle worker posted the hack as part of a 'company secret' series on TikTok last year, but did caveat her advice by explaining that you'll have to say something along the lines of 'I didn't like the smell'.

Ashley alleged: "You can take in your candle and get another one, exchange it out for another one, even if you've already burned it.

"This one", she said, holding up a jar that had almost been burned to the bottom, "is basically all the way burned. I could take this in and just say: 'I didn't like the smell', and then they would give you an entirely brand new candle for free."

Given that Yankee Candles cost around £30 for a large jar, this hack could save you some serious money. Writing in the comments section, Ashley further added: "I forgot the best part! You don't need a receipt to exchange it!"

Some people said that they'd feel too mean getting a free replacement - but others quickly justified it to themselves. One wrote: "I'd feel bad doing this. But then again they did charge me $19 (£15.62) for wax."

Another appeared to confirm the policy, but said there are limitations, writing: "The policy is there if you truly didn't like it. I worked for them for 10 years. However, repeat offenders are tracked and cut off if necessary."

A third person admitted, "I could never return that with a straight face", while another agreed: "I'd feel so guilty doing this."

One person queried: "What if I got a customised one with a picture?" "You can still take it back if you don't like it," Ashley replied. "All of the returned candles get thrown away or the employees can choose to buy them for like $7."

The Mirror contacted Yankee Candle for comment.
