Colin Farrell has been praised for his Golden Globes acceptance speech, which has gone viral for "killing toxic masculinity".

The star scooped the award for Best Actor for his work in The Banshees of Inisherin.

Taking to the stage to accept the gong, Colin thanked those close to him as well as his co-stars in a speech which has now gone viral.

The 46-year-old has been praised for going against the "toxic masculinity culture" as he told fellow actor Brendan Gleeson that he loved him.

While getting emotional, Colin said: "Brendan, I just, I love you so much. I love that I get to cohabitate this creative space with you every day. All I did when I came to work every day was aspire to be your equal.

"I'm not saying I even got there, but the aspiration kept me going. And I'll thank you for that for the rest of my days also."

Fans took to Twitter to praise Colin for his speech.

One wrote: "This speech. Colin Farrell telling Brendan Gleeson he loves him. The emotion. The charisma… Toxic masculinity found dead in a ditch!!!!"

As another said: "Brilliant loving speech from the heart. And kicking the absolute a** out of toxic masculinity in the process. #ColinFarrell what a man."

Colin then went on to thank playwright Martin McDonagh for changing "the trajectory" of his life, which he said he will always be grateful for.

Toxic masculinity is defined as a cultural concept of manliness that glorifies stoicism, strength, virility, and dominance, and that is socially maladaptive or harmful to mental health.

The Irishman joked about his time sharing a house with Barry Keoghan, reminding himself to never eat his co-star's food.

While laughing, Colin said: "Barry, when you're sharing a house with an actor you're working with, a word of advice Barry. Don't eat his Crunchy Nut Cornflakes and leave him with no breakfast in the morning.

"You should never send a man to work on an empty belly."
