A contestant on The Chase was left apologising to their co-star as they fought for a huge £100,000.

The ITV gameshow returned on Thursday night with Bradley Walsh welcoming a new set of contestants hoping to beat the Chasers. In the hot seat was Paul Sinha, also known as the Sinnerman. Harry, Alex, Patricia and Rachel each took turns answering questions in the hopes of building a strong bank for the team.

However, Alex and Patricia failed on their rounds so were left out of the final chase. Harry had pocketed £6,000 for the team, while Rachel decided to make a bold move during her round. She managed to bank £5,000 in her cash builder and was offered a low of £1,000 or a high of a staggering £94,000.

She was tempted by the offer, yet co-star Harry wasn't keen. He told her: "No way should you be taking that £94,000 it is just there to tempt you. I honestly would go with the £1,000. Get back here, we need two people, if we have £1,000 extra that is money in our pocket."

Rachel didn't listen to his advice, as she said: "Oh Harry! Oh god, I am going to have to do it! I am going to have to go for £94,000. I am sorry, I am so sorry Harry but £94,000..." Harry left his head in his hands and encouraged: "You can do it." He didn't need to worry for long as Rachel sailed through the round, securing the huge prize.

It meant the pair were left to compete for £100,000 in the final chase. They managed to make it to 16 steps in the final round, and pushed the Sinnerman back one during his last set of questions. Unfortunately for the pair, the Sinnerman managed to catch them with just 16 seconds to spare.

They ended up losing the whopping £100,000 prize. Paul told them: "Unlucky! Superb playing and the game was a pleasure! I had to be on my game there, the questions were really tricky."

In a recent episode, one brainy contestant made history with his last-minute knowledge. After losing his whole team, Dan chose the high offer set by Chaser Jenny Ryan, bringing £80,000 back to the table from the first round. However, the Vixen was close behind during the Final Chase until her final question of 17 - when she had to pass.

With only four seconds remaining, host Bradley Walsh asked Dan: "Israel's main airport is named after which Prime Minister?" Dan correctly answered: "David Ben-Gurion." A stunned Bradley exclaimed: "Unbelievable!" This pushed Jenny back a step, leaving her with four seconds to answer two questions correctly to catch him.

In the final moments, the Vixen managed to gain a step back, but it wasn't enough to catch Dan - who walked away with the £80,000 jackpot all to himself. An astonished Bradley explained to Dan the record he had broken: "The highest amount any single player has ever won."
