Victoria Mary Clarke says husband Shane MacGowan's spirit has visited her

Shane MacGowan's wife Victoria Mary Clarke revealed the late singer "nudged" her while watching TV.

The Pogues star died aged 65 in November last year following a series of illnesses that had left him in hospital. Shane was discharged from hospital where he was able to celebrate his and Victoria's fifth wedding anniversary at home before tragically dying "peacefully" days later.

Victoria recently paid tribute to her late husband on Christmas Day - which was also his birthday. She admitted she doesn't know how she'll "get through this". In her latest update, Victoria told her followers that she felt incapable of picking up a guitar since Shane's passing.

Writing on Instagram, she shared: “I haven’t played my guitar since @shanemacgowanofficial died but last night while I was trying to watch TV I kept getting nudges from him to open the drawer of his desk. I kept trying to ignore the nudges and I tried to keep watching TV but something wouldn’t let me and I had to get up and open the drawer. Inside the drawer was a plectrum, so I picked it up and then I picked up the guitar and played a few chords.”

Victoria explained she felt Shane's spirit with her as she played. She added: “And it genuinely felt like there was an energy that was coming through and making up a tune!!! Who knows what we are capable of from the other side? I do know that it felt really good to play the guitar!”

On Christmas Day, Victoria opened up on celebrating the occasion without her husband. She said: "Today is really really hard much harder than I expected it to be. I just can’t stop crying and I want to be with him so much it physically hurts. I don’t know how people get through this but I do know that they do and people do feel joy even after they lose their person.

"Shane always said that even though he was born on Christmas Day he was much more focused on it being Jesus birthday and he felt like that was the most important thing about Christmas so I am asking for Jesus and the angels to help me today." The Pogues star suffered from serious health issues for some time and had been receiving treatment in hospital for months after contracting encephalitis, a condition which affects the brain.

Following his death Victoria said he was "surrounded by thousands of angels" when he passed away. Victoria explained: "Mercifully, he looked very peaceful and there was an immediate atmosphere of grace in the hospital room. He was surrounded by thousands of angels in the moment of his passing and they filled us all with love and peace.

"He actually died during the last rites which was hugely comforting because he was devoted to his faith and he prayed constantly and took Holy Communion every day. I honestly don't remember what Shane's last words were but I think he said, 'thank you'. He said thank you a lot. In fact the nurses commented on how often he expressed his gratitude to them."
