Fresh off the back of his World Darts Championship success, Luke Humphries appeared on BBC Breakfast just hours after celebrating with pal Ryan Searle.

The 28-year-old secured a 7-4 win over Luke Littler in a barnstorming Ally Pally final on Wednesday to continue his red hot form following victories in the Grand Slam and Grand Prix. Humphries has now won 19 successive televised matches, having climbed to no.1 in the world rankings after his semi-final demolition of Scott Williams.

After becoming world champion, Humphries told the media that he will go "straight to the bar" in the hotel to celebrate his success. And Humphries certainly didn't disappoint as he toasted the victory with world No.20 Searle, who was knocked out following a 4-2 third round defeat against Joe Cullen.

Searle, 36, posted a photo of him and Humphries on his Instagram account, with the caption: "2am baby Guinness with the champ @lukehumphries180." The newly-crowned world champion also posted the photo on his Instagram story as he thanked Searle for his support. He said: "Come all the way to support me tonight! That's what you call a true friend! Unbelievable to share this moment with @heavymetal180."

Humphries added another photo at around 5am of him celebrating with the Sid Waddell Trophy, before then appearing on the BBC Breakfast show at 8:45am. Presenters Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt quizzed Humphries on his World Darts victory and he expressed his delight to win another major honour.

"It's incredible, it feels amazing to me," he said. "I've worked incredibly hard over the past few years to be in these moments personally, but for last night to become world champion on top of being world No.1, it's what dreams are made of and I've worked really hard for. To have that trophy next to me is worth everything I've gone through."

Humphries is set to named alongside seven players in the Premier League Darts line-up for 2024 on Thursday afternoon. Michael van Gerwen, Michael Smith and Gerwyn Price are among the others expected to be included, while there is an eagerly-anticipated wait to see if Littler, 16, is chosen.

Speaking to Sky Sports after his win, Humphries claimed he would love to battle against Littler in the Premier League, which gets underway in Cardiff on February 1. "Luke showed incredible grit, incredible determination. We will never, ever see the likes of him again. To go up on that stage in a world final and produce those darts. I was putting him under so much pressure," Humphries said.

"I love the kid to bits and I hope that he's in the Premier League and plays in everything because I would love the share the stage with him a lot more. I've just achieved something that is a dream for darts players, so I'm really, really pleased. Obviously the crowd wanted Luke to win and I couldn't begrudge them that because it would have been a fantastic story had he won the tournament. What an incredible story would that have been for our sport."
