Michelle Keegan has revealed she hates being asked when she is having a baby with husband Mark Wright – and says it’s no one else’s business.

The couple, who are both 36, have been married almost eight years – but Michelle says it is her who constantly gets asked when they are going to start a family and she believes this is because she is a woman.

Each time the pair post a snap with one of their growing number of nieces or nephews on social media, fans are quick to ask when they are going to have a baby of their own. And it seems Michelle, who is currently starring in new Netflix drama Fool Me Once, has had enough of it.

Saying she wants to do things on her own terms and won’t be pressurised into starting a family, the actress blasted the constant line of questioning and said: “It’s horrible. People don’t know if we’re trying. They don’t know the background of what’s happening. In this day and age, you shouldn’t be asking questions like that. I’m asked purely because I’m a woman. But I’m immune to it now – it’s like a reaction, and as soon as I hear it I brush it off as it’s no one else’s business.”

Former Coronation Street star Michelle, who recently revealed she was “embarrassed” to win the Sexiest Female award 12 times during her time in the ITV soap, has previously said she has “always been broody” and would like to have four kids in the future. While husband Mark has made no secret of his desire to become a father, especially now the couple have built their dream home in Essex, which is now complete.

But a source said Michelle gets “really down” after all the comments on her private life on social media. They told Closer magazine: “It made her feel incredibly angry at all those anonymous people who know nothing about her or what’s going on in her life, being so bolshy and plain appropriate.

“As far as she and Mark are concerned, their baby plans are private and have nothing to do with the public. No one knows what’s going on behind closed doors and it infuriates her that people are so unaware of that. She refuses to be pressured and while she is longing to start a family, she wants to take things strictly on her terms.”

Every year the couple revealed they say they are going to try for a baby “but then something comes up with work”. The source continued: “It’s no secret that Mark is extremely broody and while Michelle’s wanted to concentrate on her career, it’s something she’d also love to happen for them.”

The source added Michelle has never been in a rush and wanted to take the time to enjoy married life with just the two of them before having children, as well as fulfilling their career ambitions, as she wants to be a hands-on mum when the time comes.

It comes as Mark described himself as Michelle’s “biggest fan” in his most recent post on Instagram. Sharing a series of photos from her latest Netflix project, he gushed: "I can't tell you how happy and proud I am for this incredible woman I call my wife. It's hard for people outside to see the work that goes in to an actor's life behind the scenes to get to the top. People might think that it comes easy, they just roll up and do their job but it couldn't be further from the truth.”

He reflected on Michelle leaving Coronation Street in 2014. She rose to fame playing Tina McIntyre and on the soap, with her saying at the time that she wanted to "make the next step in her career". She's since been in acclaimed shows like Our Girl and Brassic.

Mark continued: "Watching her nerves leaving the soap that made her over a decade ago, trying so hard to be taken seriously as an actor, moving into big serious dramas as her career has moved forward has been such an important thing to her.”

The TV presenter went on to share that he feels "emotional" over the reception to his wife's latest performance. He told fans: "To see how FOOL ME ONCE is being loved all round the world and how Michelle's performance is being praised makes me feel so proud and even emotional." Addressing his wife directly, he continued: "This is your time babe, this is what it's all been for, keep shining girl. Your biggest fan is right here behind you, all the way!!"
