Pokemon Scarlet & Violet's DLC may have leaked as mystery pokemon appear
A Regional Pokemon Championships may have accidentally lifted the lid on two never-before-seen pokemon in a livestream faux pa, and gamers are wondering if they going to appear in a forthcoming DLC.
Fans watching the San Diego Regional Pokemon Championships got a little more excitement than they may have bargained for when they were accidentally shown a glimpse of two of the little collectible creatures that nobody had ever seen before.
The pokemon in question were shown in the style of the recent Pokemon Scarlet & Violet game, pointing to their potential arrival in the game in the near future. The leak showed an image containing six pokemon, the middle four of which are known and already in the game (Kabuto, Garbador, Vanillish, and Volbeat). However, the two at either end have a little more mystique about them.
Gotta leak them all
The mysterious Pokedex appearance of the two unknown sprites was highlighted on Twitter by @mattyoukhana who tweeted the image saying “During the San Diego Regional Championships stream today, their manual sprite selector for team previews accidentally showed off Scarlet & Violet style menu sprites for Pokémon that are not currently in the games. They probably just have art for all 1008 species for the future.”
Fans were quick to point out the possibility that they thought the newcomers may be part of an upcoming DLC for Scarlet & Violet, but there is little evidence other than speculation for this at this stage. Additional content for the game hasn't been officially confirmed, and hasn't historically been a regular feature of the series. But we've seen expansions come to the more recent titles, and it's likely the newest pokemon game will get a similar treatment. Especially with this leak seemingly teasing new critters.
Nintendo Switch 2 release set for next year as Zelda ushers in the end of SwitchThe image was broadcast when the manual sprite selector for team previews accidentally showed the sprites, and people were quick to point out that they were in the style of the Scarlet and Violet menu system.
There remains the possibility that art for all 1008 Pokemon is in the game and decisions have yet to be made on what gets released into the wild and when; although the fact these two particular pokemon are in the style of the current game might lend further credence to the idea that we will get them sooner rather than later, even if it’s not in the next DLC that drops
Pokemon Scarlet & Violet sold an astonishing 10 million copies in just its first three days on sale (via Business Wire), but within a month retailers were slashing the price ahead of the holiday sales period.
