Brooks Koepka wasted no time in taking to social media following Rory McIlroy's U-turn on LIV Golf. Following LIV's break onto the scene in the summer of 2022, McIlroy announced himself as one of the breakaway league's biggest critics having pledged his loyalties to the PGA Tour.

This week, however, the Northern Irishman appears to have softened his stance on the LIV setup when appearing on Sky Bet's Stick to Football. Backtracking on his previous comments, McIlroy admitted he had made a 'mistake' when jumping to criticise players for making the Saudi switch.

"I was maybe a little judgmental of the guys who went to LIV golf at the start," the four-time major champion said. I think it was a bit of a mistake on my part because I now realise that not everyone is in my position or in Tiger Woods' position.

"We all turn professionals to making a living playing the sports that we do, and I think that’s what I realised over the last two years. I can’t judge people for making that decision, so if I regret anything, it was probably being too judgmental at the start.”

One of those who opted to sign on the dotted line with LIV was Koepka, and it appeared that the American paid homage to the Northern Irishman's change in heart on X (formerly Twitter ). In the hours after the interview, Koepka posted a GIF of the iconic 'none of my business' Kermit the Frog meme to his 622,000 followers.

The five-time major winner posted the GIF without a caption, but it appeared to be cheeky jibe towards his PGA Tour rival. McIlroy and Koepka have been known to share a good friendship, despite finding themselves on opposite sides of golf's civil war.

Last April the pair reunited by opting play a practice round together at the Masters, before being paired together in the opening two rounds of last June's U.S. Open. Despite their relationship, McIlroy himself had previously claimed that he would rather retire than join Koepka on the LIV circuit, after discussing the proposed merger between the two tours at last summer's Scottish Open.

Six months on though it appears the breakaway league's team format is beginning to grow on the 34-year-old after making a comparison to cricket's Indian Premier League. “What I would love LIV to turn into is almost like the Indian Premier League of golf.

"The IPL in cricket, they take two months during the calendar, you have four weeks in May and four weeks in November, and you go and do this team stuff – it’s a bit different, and it’s a different format. If they were to do something like that, I think that sounds like fun – you’re at least working within the ecosystem."
