Apple TV+ is gearing up to premiere some blockbuster new shows this month as it continues its impressive output of quality original content. The streamer enjoyed a stellar year in 2023 with a host of acclaimed titles including Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon and third seasons of The Morning Show and Slow Horses.

Apple has announced that the hit crime comedy will return for at least two more seasons, while a second season of period drama The Buccaneers is also in the works. All of this can be streamed with a subscription to Apple TV+, which usually costs £8.99 a month and also includes Godzilla series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Idris Elba thriller Hijack and John Lennon docuseries Murder Without a Trial.

But customers can sign up today and stream all of this and more without paying a penny thanks to Apple’s seven-day free trial. Savvy shoppers can even get Apple TV+ free for a much longer period thanks to a money-saving deal from Currys.

Here, we take a look at the new films and shows launching on Apple TV+ in January 2024.

Criminal Record

This Apple Original crime drama stars Doctor Who’s Peter Capaldi and The Good Wife’s Cush Jumbo as two brilliant detectives. One is a young woman in the early stages of her career, the other a well-connected and grizzled man determined to protect his legacy.

Following an anonymous phone call, the pair are drawn into a confrontation as they’re thrust into a tug of war over a high-profile murder case. The series touches on issues of race, institutional failure and the quest to find common ground in a polarised Britain.

Criminal Record is available to stream from January 10.

Masters of the Air

This new series from producers Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks follows the real soldiers of World War II’s 100th Bomb Group – nicknamed the “Bloody Hundredth” – as they conduct perilous bombing raids over Nazi Germany. Oscar-nominees Austin Butler and Barry Keoghan are among the airmen grappling with the frigid conditions, lack of oxygen and sheer terror of combat conducted at 25,000 feet in the air.

Portraying the psychological and emotional price paid by these young men as they helped destroy the horror of Hitler’s Third Reich is at the heart of the series. Some were shot down and captured, some were wounded or killed and some were lucky enough to make it home.

Regardless of individual fate, a toll was exacted on them all. The series takes place in locations ranging from the fields and villages of southeast England to the harsh deprivations of a German prisoner-of-war camp, and depicts a unique and crucial time in world history.

Masters of the Air is available to stream from January 26. Join Apple TV+ to watch all of this new content and more. Alternatively, other popular streaming services include Disney+ and Amazon’s Prime Video.
