Black mascara, your days are numbered. We’re calling it - are making a comeback for 2024. The makeup trend was a staple of the 80s and 90s, and after last year’s clean girl aesthetic, vibrant lashes might just be the next big thing.

It comes after American beauty brand Maybelline has released to its wildly popular Lash Sensational Sky High Mascara line. The cult-favourite mascara, which last year, has had a makeover, now coming in daring shades of pink, blue and burgundy.

The OG formula skyrocketed to the top of the beauty charts soon after its 2021 launch, going viral on TikTok for delivering gravity-defying lashes. Adored by beauty enthusiasts and influencers alike, this has become the secret weapon for achieving flawless, fluttery lashes that almost seem too good to be true.

The latest shades still have the best-loved bamboo extract and fibres formula, as well as the exclusive Flex Tower mascara brush that bends to volumise and extend lashes from root to tip - all that’s new is the

Each shade is surprisingly flattering, and designed to enhance particular eye colours., with Blue Mist best suited to brown eyes and instantly make the whites of your eyes look brighter. Makeup enthusiasts have been eager to give them a go, with dozens of reviews already raving about them on the Maybelline website. One said: “I already use the black sky high mascara and I love how this gives me super long lashes without smudging. This one is a new burgundy colour which is great for a unique look and it makes my blue eyes really pop!”

Another added: “This mascara is a delight to use. The brush reaches even the smallest of lashes. The mascara evenly coats the lashes even with just one coat. If you use more than one coat it really makes your eyes stand out. It's a nice pink too, visible and a bit different. Especially for parties.”

While a third commented: “The colour is stunning and unique, adding a pop of blue to my lashes that really makes my eyes stand out.”

However, bright mascaras are perhaps not going to be a universally loved trend, with another adding: “The mascara was very easy to apply and made my lashes appear longer and thicker. The colour was not for me though as I am an old-fashioned brown or black mascara girl but I am sure the younger generation would love it.”

Of course, as anyone born in the 60s or 70s will know, coloured mascara is nothing new, and there have been plenty on the market for a number of years, from the to the more affordable for £3.49. But with how well-loved the Sky High formula is, we’ve no doubt that Maybelline’s playful shades are set to lead the charge when it comes to loading up our lashes this year.

The certainly offer a fresh twist on the classic mascara, adding a subtle pop of colour to a clean base, or creating eye-catching looks to elevate your lash game.
