A Burger King cook, Kevin Ford, who became an internet sensation after receiving a 'goody' bag as a reward for never missing a shift, has bought a house using part of the money raised from a crowdfunding campaign.

The campaign was launched by Ford's daughter after social media users criticised the 'insulting' gift, which included a movie ticket and a Starbucks cup.

Ford, who worked at McCarren International Airport in Las Vegas, received about $350,000 from the GoFundMe campaign, despite it originally raising almost $500K. He used half of this to buy a three-bedroom home in Pahrump, Nevada, boasting a fenced-in yard and stunning mountain views.

Ford has revealed that he plans to invest more of his winnings into his home. He had previously mentioned using the funds to visit his grandchildren and support his retirement. After a year-long campaign that raised $500,000, Ford, who hadn't missed a day of work in 27 years, announced his retirement.

Despite retiring, Ford continues to work at the same Burger King, but with one change - he finally took a day off to appear on the Today show.

"I've been crying for about two days now. It's just incredible," Ford told TODAY Food. "I just go to work and try to have fun and laugh and make other people's day good. It's like I've been in a dream for almost two days now. It's just so beautiful and awesome. It really is."

"For all those years, you feel unappreciated, but you get up just like everybody else. You do your job, and for somebody to show this appreciation is just overwhelming," he added. The GoFundMe received 8,000 donations, including some from celebrities like David Spade.

Earlier this year, Ford's daughter Seryna shared new photos and revealed that her father had already used some of the funds to visit his grandchildren in Texas. He said that the fundraiser changed his life 'forever.'

"The miracle of the generosity of so many people all around the world has allowed me to save for retirement and my children's and grandchildren's futures and even to someday soon own my own home dreams really can come true," he added.
