BBC presenter Mishal Husain swore an incredible seven times in under a minute live on air as she grilled Home Secretary James Cleverly.

Hosting Radio 4's Today Programme on Tuesday, Husain confronted Mr Cleverly about a series of blunders and sweary slip-ups he's alleged to have made over the last few months that have sparked outrage among voters. Mr Cleverly previously insisted he did not “remember” describing the Tory Rwanda deportation plan as “bats**t”.

The claim about the remark was made by Labour's Yvette Cooper in the Commons after the Supreme Court torpedoed the Government's flagship immigration plan. The Home Secretary said he doesn't recognise the claims he described the Rwanda policy as 'bats**t'.

In November, he also denied describing Stockton as a "s***hole" - but apologised for calling a Labour MP "s**t". Labour's Alex Cunningham alleged Mr Cleverly had described his north-east constituency as a "sh**hole" in the Commons.

Speaking to the Home Secretary, Ms Husain mentioned 'the time it was reported that you call a government policy bats**t' as well as the 'person or place you referred to in Parliament as a s**thole'. Mr Clevery immediately said: "No I didn't," before Ms Husain asked: "You didn't use the word s**thole in Parliament?"

He denied using the word and Ms Husain tried asking him the same question one more time. He still denied it. She then asked: "So when you were picked up on a microphone who was talking, who said the word in Parliament?" An unimpressed Mr Cleverly told Ms Husain she 'needed to do better research' as he was referring to 'an individual'.

"You used the word s**t didn't you?" she asked. Mr Cleverly answered: "Yes I did, but the point is what you just accused me of is very very different and completely wrong." Not one to back down, Ms Husain continued: "Ok, you say that you did say that a person was a s**t. Other people heard different things."

The Home Secretary wasn't having it and said he already 'clarified' what he said but Ms Husain added: "Other people say you said s**thole, you say you said s**t." Defending himself, the politician said he 'knows what he said'.

"And other people heard something else," the presenter pointed out before he responded: "No they didn't, they couldn't have, because I only heard one thing. That's not how science works." Last year, Mr Cleverly apologised for his comments but claimed he was talking about Mr Cunningham rather than his constituency.

The Home Secretary's spokesman told the Mirror: “James made a comment. He called Alex Cunningham a s**t MP. He apologises for unparliamentary language. “As was made clear yesterday, he would never criticise Stockton. He’s campaigned in Stockton and is clear that it is a great place.”
