Peep Show star Sophie Winkleman claims the King's relative took full charge of the royal wedding.

Sophie Winkleman, 43, married Lord Frederick Windsor, the second cousin of King Charles, in 2009 at Hampton Court Palace surrounded by royalty and some of her closest friends. But the star who shot to fame playing Big Suze in Channel 4's Peep Show claims she only knew a handful of people – her close friends.

In a new interview, the royal and actress who is officially styled Lady Frederick Windsor, who alongside her husband is 53rd in line to the throne has opened up about the regal day. The mum-of-two also opened up about her relationship with His Majesty and her close bond with the late Queen Elizabeth.

"I didn't know anyone at my wedding," she told Tatler, before adding: "I had my best pals there but basically it was full of faces I'd never seen before. My mother-in-law, Princess Michael of Kent, took full personal charge of it all and did it brilliantly, including what dress I was wearing.

"I was so determined not to be a bridezilla, I didn't even work out my hairstyle and I cannot tell you how disgusting it looked. Coming up the aisle, the first thing I said when I saw Freddie was, 'I'm so sorry about the hair.' He said, 'Yes, what on earth have you done?' That's pretty much all I can remember about it. My hair and being such a moron. But it was such a beautiful place."

Sophie went on to explain that The Duchess of Kent helped choose the music for the ceremony, which also included a performance from her friend, Bryan Adams. Shortly after their wedding, the couple relocated to the trendy neighbourhood of West Hollywood after she landed a role alongside Ashton Kutcher in Two and a Half Men – but Lord Frederick never once spoke about his royal life at Kensington Palace and didn't share details about himself as nobody knew "anything about him".

But in 2013, the couple returned to London following the birth of their first daughter, Maud, so she could rely on her mother and sister-in-law Lady Gabriella Kingston for childcare help. However, her life soon took a drastic change after she suffered a car crash and was left trapped in the backseat before paramedics were forced to cut her out as she thought she was dying.

After bumping into her cousin-in-law, the late Queen Elizabeth at a function while she was recovering, the late Monarch instructed her to use the pool at Buckingham Palace to aid her recovery. "That's the reason I got better, it was so typically thoughtful," she explained before adding that Prince Charles supplied the family with meals twice a day.

Despite her in-laws leading busy lives, Sophie maintains that she's still close to The King, the Duchess of Edinburgh and in-laws including Lady Sarah Chatto, Zara Tindall and the Duchess of York. She still, however, remains close to Princess Catherine and Prince William but doesn't see them as much since they relocated to Windsor.
