Jurgen Klopp's post-match celebrations didn't last long after the Liverpool manager lost his wedding ring and had to search for it on the Anfield pitch.

The Reds boss was saluting the home crowd after they helped the Reds secure a 4-2 win over Newcastle to open up a gap at the top of the Premier League. On a rain-soaked night on Merseyside the camera was on Klopp as he applauded the fans.

His endeavours were bought to a quick halt though as the German looked to the turf. It became evident he'd lost something before quickly coming across his ring. Klopp saw the funny side as he kissed it in front of the camera before celebrating with the Kop.

He made his relief known as he recalled another instance where he thought his ring was gone: “Oh my God I lost it once and I needed a professional diver to find it because I lost it in the sea. From time to time I lose one or two kilos - maybe I lost too much and my right hand was too lively, and I had a massive shock.

“But it’s back and the camera man, he’s annoyed me a lot this season but tonight he has a lot of shots for you because that was really important.”

The win means Liverpool are now three points clear of Aston Villa, who sit second, after they put in arguably their best performance of the season. They stuck four past Newcastle, whose poor form continued, thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah, Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo.

Klopp was full of praise for his side as he told the BBC : "It was a sensational game from my team. We started extremely lively. Everyone saw Dubravka or we ourselves made sure the score didn't get too clear. Super game. I loved so many aspects of the game bar the goals we conceded.

"Unbelievable game. Unbelievable atmosphere. Counter-pressing wise it was for football schools. They have to watch that, take it and keep it. It was everything good. The show must go on. We now have five or six days so three training days. It will change the world from a freshness point of view.

"Dominik Szoboszlai with a hamstring, we hope not too serious. Other players felt it as well. It's super intense. But there's no alternative if you want to win football games."
