Coronation Street's Tina O'Brien feels like she's hit the jackpot.

Known for her role as Sarah Platt on the Cobbles, she's been at the heart of major storylines in Weatherfield in 2023. Her character's marriage to Adam Barlow was in ruins after her affair with Damon Hay and she played a crucial role in bringing down serial killer Stephen Reid.

The new year promises more drama as Sarah deals with the return of two characters to Weatherfield. The troublesome Damon, portrayed by Ciaran Griffiths, is due to return early in the year, causing problems for Tina's onscreen alter ego just as her relationship with Adam begins to mend.

Tina is loving being part of the show more than ever as her significance to Corrie remains strong. She told the Liverpool ECHO and other press: "To be honest, I feel I've won the lottery when it comes to my job, I really do. I absolutely love working with the people that I love. With Ciaran being back as well, I've just not stopped laughing."

She added that Ciaran is "more mischievous" than his character and "brings a lot of good energy to set". Sarah can look forward to a positive 2024 as her daughter, Bethany Platt, is set to return to Weatherfield. Bethany is brought alive by Lucy Fallon and Tina couldn't resist showering praise on her co-star. She said: "I love her, and it's amazing to have her back."

Bethany's comeback could stir up some drama as she might get tangled up again with ex-lover Daniel Osbourne, who is now seeing Daisy Midgeley. Tina revealed: "I think if Sarah knows Bethany well enough, she knows that there's probably going to be drama following very closely behind her." She added that it was a "complete surprise".

Sarah feels a bit left out in the first episodes, as Bethany hesitates to open up about Daniel. With Bethany returning, the Platts are once again a full house. Sharing the screen with her TV clan is Tina's favourite part of the gig. She said: "There's a dynamic between the group of us that it's just so beautiful to be a part of."

Tina can't help but break into laughter when shooting humorous scenes with her on-screen brother, Jack P Shepherd, and mum Gail, played by Helen Worth. She said: "If I've got scenes with Jack after 4pm, I cannot keep a straight face." Tina added that she "can't even look him in the eye" because he makes her laugh so much. "But Helen Worth is the cheeky one. She'll get you laughing and is a bit of a dark horse."

Coronation Street airs tonight at 8pm on ITV and ITVX.
