The Los Angeles Rams have made a remarkable comeback, securing a spot in the NFL playoffs a year after their head coach considered his future with the franchise.

In a nail-biting match at MetLife Stadium, the Rams clinched a 26-25 victory over the New York Giants. This win, which was their sixth in the past seven games, has put Sean McVay's team in the number six seed in the NFC and confirmed their place in the postseason.

Gunner Olszewski, the Giants wide receiver, scored a touchdown bringing the Giants just one point behind the Rams with only 3:27 left in the fourth quarter. However, an attempted two-point conversion pass to Saquon Barkley was missed, denying the Giants the lead.

The Giants had another opportunity at victory with a field goal attempt by Mason Crosby. But the Green Bay Packers legend missed the mark with just 36 seconds left in the game, allowing the Rams to hold on for the win and secure their playoff return.

With this victory, the Rams now stand at 9-7 for the year, placing them second in the NFC West behind the number one seed in the San Francisco 49ers. The Rams have secured a spot in the Wild Card round of the playoffs and will face off against the Niners in Week 18, the final game of the regular season.

Just a year ago, there was uncertainty over who would be in charge of the Rams. McVay shared at his last press conference in the 2022 season that he had a decision to make over whether or not to stay in the job.

"I think what I liked to do is be able to take the appropriate time," McVay on January 9, 2023, via NFL.com. "Never gone through anything like this, but you want to make sure that you're considerate of the people that are affected.

"That's the most important thing and that's probably, you know, you want to be able to the consistent conversations and dialogues that have existed with the people that I love and really care about, 'Hey do what you think is best for you and (McVay's wife) Veronika (Khomyn).'

"But that doesn't mean it takes away the empathy, the level of responsibility that I do feel for the people that would be affected as it relates to my decision moving forward, and so those are the things that you don't take lightly.

"You want to be able to make sure that you're intentional about taking the appropriate time, while also making a decision in a manner that's considerate of those people that would be affected."

Just four days later, on January 13, the Rams confirmed that McVay would stay on as head coach. Fast forward to January 2024, and under McVay's leadership, the Rams have made it to the playoffs for the fifth time in seven years.
