It's January, which means one thing... the transfer window is open!

Countless players will be on the move over the next month, including many current Premier League stars. A lot of people are talking about the futures of Ivan Toney, Conor Gallagher, Kylian Mbappe and Dominic Solanke, while the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Aston Villa, Newcastle, Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester United could do business.

But what about those players who aren't currently dominating the headlines? Here, Mirror Football have found eight forgotten Premier League stars who are desperate for a transfer this month - and which club they could join before the window slams shut.

Andre Gomes

Let's start off with arguably the most forgotten player in the Premier League. Yes, Gomes is still at Everton. The Portugal midfielder, 30, seems destined to leave Merseyside when his contract expires in June and could even be granted a free transfer this month.

It's unclear exactly which club Gomes will join next, yet it's hard to imagine the Toffees giving him another contract. Remarkably, the forgotten star has featured in Everton's last three Premier League games - scoring against Tottenham - but they lost all of those.

Cedric Soares

How on Earth is Cedric still at Arsenal? Gomes' compatriot has six months left on his contract but hasn't played a single minute in the Premier League this season. The 32-year-old has made a single appearance in both the Champions League and Carabao Cup.

Whether or not another club comes in for Cedric remains to be seen. And with Oleksandr Zinchenko nursing a calf injury, Mikel Arteta may just decide to keep hold of his forgotten star in January. Still, it would be a shock if Cedric is handed a new contract in 2024.

Matt Ritchie

Once the darling of Bournemouth's wing, Ritchie now finds himself sitting on Newcastle's bench... if he's lucky. The Scotland international, 34, has made six Premier League outings this season - but only because of Eddie Howe's huge injury list.

Ritchie was left out of Newcastle's Champions League squad and will surely be allowed to join another club if one comes calling. His experience could be vital for one of the teams struggling for survival or a promotion hopeful in the Championship. Watch this space!

Eric Dier

This time last year, Dier had just represented England in his second World Cup as a key member of Tottenham's defence. Yet the 29-year-old isn't fancied by Ange Postecoglou and has played just four Premier League games since the manager's appointment in June.

Spurs are expected to listen to offers for Dier this month and a lot of clubs will be interested in signing the experienced star. He's got just six months left on his contract and will be looking forward to the next chapter of his career after a decade in north London.

Trevoh Chalobah

Where is Chalobah? The defender hasn't played a single minute for Chelsea this season. It's believed that's due to a hamstring injury, but there are reports linking him with a switch abroad. Several clubs have been linked with the 24-year-old defender in recent weeks.

Those include Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Crystal Palace and Inter Milan. Yet Jose Mourinho's Roma are the favourites to sign Chalobah. Several Chelsea players have joined Roma in recent years, including strikers Tammy Abraham and Romelu Lukaku (loan).

Kalvin Phillips

Surely, it's time for Phillips to leave Manchester City. The England midfielder, 28, hasn't started a Premier League game this season - not even when Rodri was banned against Wolves and Arsenal. Pep Guardiola simply doesn't trust the former Leeds star.

Juventus are believed to be in talks with City over a loan deal for Phillips, which would boost his chance of making Gareth Southgate's squad for Euro 2024. Newcastle have also been linked with the £42million star, but City may see them as a direct rival.

Danny Ings

Ings joined West Ham from Aston Villa a year ago but has failed to nail down a spot under David Moyes. The 31-year-old striker has played just 133 minutes of football this season and could leave the London Stadium if another team comes calling this month.

There's talk of a return to Southampton, having scored 22 Premier League goals for the club during the 2019/20 season. The Saints have won four consecutive Championship games to move up to third in the table, just three points behind Ipswich in second.

Calum Chambers

Chambers hasn't done much during Villa's superb 2023/24 campaign, featuring just three times in the Europa Conference League. The 28-year-old defender hasn't played a single minute in the Premier League, spending most of his time glued to Unai Emery's bench.

Chambers still has 18 months left on his contract, but Emery may allow him to leave Villa Park on a free transfer, having arrived from Arsenal for nothing in January 2022. A loan move, perhaps to a Championship club, is a strong possibility for the England international.
