Thanking the bus driver in Fortnite has been a feature in the game since 2018, but it's not something that's explicitly taught to you in-game. Here's how to do it.

Epic Games added the ability to thank the bus driver in Fortnite in August 2018, following a petition from Fortnite fan Kody Keddie published on Change.org in July of that year (which is no longer live, but was reported on by comicbook.com at the time). While the petition was a bit tongue-in-cheek with lines like "Since I was just a boy I have always loved jumping out of the battle bus" (Fortnite had only been released the prior year), many agreed that it would be the polite thing to do for the poor Battle Bus driver who is stuck behind the wheel day in and day out.

A month later, players on Reddit noticed that the ability to thank the bus driver was added alongside Fortnite update V5.30. While thanking the bus driver in Fortnite doesn't give you any tactical advantage, doing it is typically a part of the seasonal milestone quests with each new season and can net you some XP toward the battle pass.

How to thank the bus driver in Fortnite

Thanking the bus driver is as easy as pressing a button. We'll run down all of the platforms and how you can thank the bus driver in Fortnite on each one. Thanking the bus driver can only be done while you're on the Battle Bus at the beginning of a match, and you can't thank the bus driver once you've started skydiving, so make sure to get it out the way first thing.

  • PS5 and PS4 – down on the d-pad
  • Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and Xbox One – down on the d-pad
  • – down directional button on the left Joy-Con
  • - B on the Keyboard or down on the d-pad on the controller
  • Mobile – press the emote button on the top-right of the screen

Bear in mind these are the default controls for the game we've listed, and obviously won't be the same if you re-bind them (although If you've knowingly rebound the button we're sure you won't need a guide in the first place).
