Supermarket New Year opening times including Tesco, Asda, Aldi and Lidl
Supermarkets will be tweaking their opening hours because of the New Year’s Day bank holiday.
It means last-minute shoppers will need to be prepared and know when their local shop is due to open and close this weekend. New Year’s Eve (December 31) falls on a Sunday this year, with New Year’s Day (January 1) on Monday being a bank holiday.
We explain what this means for supermarkets including Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury's, Aldi and Lidl. Keep in mind this is just a rough guide, as opening times vary across the county and can be different in Wales and Scotland. Be sure to Google your nearest store to be absolutely sure of when it will open.
Aldi
Aldi has published its Christmas and New Year opening hours on its website. Its stores are due to open from 9.30am to 4pm on New Year's Eve - its normal Sunday hours.
Its stores will then be closed on New Year's Day before they reopen the following day on January 2. Aldi stores normally open at 8am and shut at 8pm or 10pm.

The supermarket chain has not said if its Scotland stores are open under different hours to the ones above, so double check online before you head down.
Asda
Asda larger superstores will open from 10am or 10.30am until 4pm or 4.30am on New Year's Eve. Its smaller Asda Express stores will be open for longer on New Year's Eve, with most opening at 6am and closing at 8pm.
These stores normally close around 11pm. Asda petrol stations may open earlier and close later on New Year's Eve. Asda stores in Scotland will also be open for longer on New Year's Eve, with some staying open until 7pm.
Asda stores will remain open on New Year's Day but under shorter hours. Most will open from 9am until 6pm. Smaller Asda Express stores will be open from 8am until 8pm on New Year's Day, with some petrol stations open for longer than this.
In Scotland, the majority of Asda stores are scheduled to open from 12pm until 6pm on New Year's Day.
Lidl
The majority of Lidl stores will open from 10am until 4pm on New Year's Eve, so its normal Sunday hours. If you live in Scotland, most stores are scheduled to open from 7am until 7pm.
Then on New Year's Day, Lidl stores will close to give staff a rest. They'll then reopen on January 2.
Morrisons
Morrisons stores will open under normal Sunday hours on New Year's Eve - so this is usually 10am until 4pm. Smaller Morrisons Daily stores are scheduled to open from 7am until 10pm. If you're in Scotland, stores will typically open from 6am until 6pm.
Then on New Year's Day, the majority of Morrisons stores will open from 9am until 6pm. The smaller Morrisons Daily stores will welcome customers from 9am until 3pm.
Petrol stations may be open longer on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

Sainsbury's
Sainsbury's larger supermarkets will be open on New Year's Eve, with most scheduled to welcome customers between 10am and 4pm.
Its smaller convenience Sainsbury's Local stores are set to open from either 7am or 8am and should stay open until 9pm. The larger Scotland Sainsbury's stores we checked are scheduled to open at either 7am or 8am and shut at 7pm or 8pm.
Then on New Year's Day, most larger Sainsbury's stores we looked at were set to open at 8am and close at either 8pm or 9pm. The smaller Sainsbury's Local stores seem to be scheduled to open from 9am until 9pm. If you live in Scotland, larger Sainsbury's supermarket stores are scheduled to open from 8am to 8pm.
Petrol stations vary, but a few we checked are open for longer hours than what we've mentioned above.
Tesco
When we checked larger Tesco supermarkets, the opening times seem to be 10am until 4pm, or 11am until 5pm on New Year's Eve. The smaller Tesco Express stores will be open for longer, with most that we checked scheduled to welcome customers 6am until 10pm.
Scotland stores we checked today should be open from 7am until 6pm on New Year's Eve.
As for New Year's Day, opening times varied for larger Tesco stores. Some are scheduled to open from 9am until 6pm - but some say they will be closed. Its smaller Tesco Express stores should be open from 8am until 10pm.
If you're in Scotland, the larger Tesco stores we checked today are set to open from 11am until 6pm on New Year's Day. Again, petrol station opening times will vary over the New Year period.
