Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney both sent touching tributes after a steward who worked for Wrexham passed away.

On Saturday, Reynolds and McElhenney were sent a message via social media that Roger Lloyd, a steward at the Racecourse Ground, had passed away. The post explained how Roger worked Wrexham's home game against Newport County on December 23, before being taken into hospital on Christmas Eve.

Roger had worked as a steward at the Racecourse Ground for close to five decades, working for the Welsh club for 48 years. The post sent to Reynolds, McElhenney, and other members of the Wrexham hierarchy including executive director Humphrey Kerr, included details of a tribute planned to pay respect to Roger.

McElhenney responded to the post by paying an emotional tribute to Roger, as well as explaining how the club would look to have a tribute during the club's next home game. Wrexham are back at the Racecourse Ground on New Year's Day against promotion rivals Barrow in League Two, where a tribute is being arranged to take place in the 48th minute of the game.

"So sorry to hear this news," wrote McElhenney in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Saturday night. "Sending love to your whole family. Happy to spread the word of this tribute and will reach out about anything we can do to show our gratitude to this wonderful man."

Reynolds, who is also a co-owner of Wrexham, replied to McElhenney's post to send a tribute to Roger. Reynolds wrote: "48 years! [broken heart emoji]."

The news about Roger's passing led to plenty of tributes for him by Wrexham fans on social media. One fan wrote, in reply to the original post to McElhenney and Reynolds: "My heart goes out to you and all of Roger's family and friends. I spoke to him regularly on a matchday, he was such a lovely man and he will [be] sorely missed."

Another fan wrote: "Condolences to all the family. After 48 years dedicated service will be showing my respect on the 48th minute." While another wrote: "My most deepest and sincerest condolences to all your family and friends. I have had the pleasure of knowing Roger for 30 plus years at the Racecourse and The Rock. Always a consummate gentleman. He will be sorely missed. May he rest in eternal peace."

Reynolds and McElhenney completed the takeover of Wrexham in February 2021. A little over two years later, the American duo would help the Welsh club achieve promotion from the National League to the EFL after a 15-year absence.

Wrexham go into the New Year's Day game against Barrow in third place in the League Two table, in the automatic promotion places, and five points adrift of leaders Stockport County.
