Militants have issued a chilling threat to the US after Navy helicopters killed 10 Houthi rebels in Yemen.

The rebels had attacked a container ship in the Red Sea, leading to their deaths. A spokesperson for the Yemeni Armed Forces warned that the US would face the 'consequences and repercussions' for the incident. They urged the people of Yemen to be ready for all possibilities to confront what they termed as "American escalation" in the region.

They stated: "The American enemy bears the consequences of this crime and its repercussions, and that its military movements in the Red Sea." They added: "The Yemeni Armed Forces call on the sons of our great Yemeni people and all the free people of our Arab and Islamic nation to be extremely vigilant and prepared for all options in order to confront the American escalation."

A spokesperson from the US Central Command confirmed that they had destroyed three boats and killed 10 Houthi rebels who had tried to board the Maersk Hangzhou. This news followed an earlier report where the military shot down two anti-ship ballistic missiles fired towards the same vessel by members of the Iranian backed militia group.

The spokesperson revealed that they had rushed to the vessel after receiving a distress call from the Danish owned ship at 6.30am. They reported that attackers in four boats had fired small arms weapons at the ship after getting to within about 20m of it.

Helicopters from the USS Dwight D Eisenhower aircraft carrier and Gravely responded to a distress call, while the ship's security team fired back. The small boat crews shot at the helicopters, according to a US Central Command spokesperson.

The spokesperson said that the Navy helicopters returned fire in self-defence, sinking three of the four boats and killing the crews. The fourth boat escaped the area.

This firefight happened after the Singapore-flagged Maersk Hangzhou reported being hit by a missile on Saturday night while travelling through the Southern Red Sea. It asked for help. The US Central Command said the boat is still seaworthy and no one was hurt.

The Houthis later admitted that 10 of their fighters were killed in the clash and warned of consequences.

These Iran-backed rebels have claimed attacks on ships in the Red Sea that they say are either linked to Israel or heading to Israeli ports. They say their raids aim to end Israel's air and ground offensive targeting the Gaza Strip following an attack by the Palestinian militant group Hamas on October 7.

The Yemeni Armed Forces said: "The morality declared by Yemen in preventing Israeli ships or those heading to the ports of occupied Palestine from passing through the Red Sea, out of solidarity and support for the Palestinian people, was that the American enemy forces attacked three boats belonging to the Yemeni naval forces, which led to the martyrdom and loss of 10 members of the naval forces.

"We also call on the rest of the countries not to engage in the dangerous American behavior, as it will have negative repercussions that may affect everyone.

"In another context, and with God's grace, the naval forces of the Yemeni Armed Forces succeeded in carrying out a military operation targeting the Maersk Hangzhou container ship, which was heading to the ports of occupied Palestine, with appropriate naval missiles."

Maersk announced they're stopping their ships from sailing through the Red Sea after two attacks on one of their big boats.

Their spokesperson said to Danish TV DR: "In light of the (most recent) incident - and to give time to investigate the details of the incident and assess the security situation further - it has been decided that all transits through the area will be postponed for the next 48 hours."

The top US naval commander in the Middle East has warned that Houthi rebels are continuing their "reckless" attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea. Despite this, no ships have been hit since the launch of Operation Prosperity Guardian over 10 days ago, according to Vice Admiral Brad Cooper.
