One person has died after a house fire in Carlisle.

The blaze is understood to have broken out in the living room of the home on Pennine Way.

Three firefighters were sent to the scene, and successfully extinguished the fire. The person, who has not yet been named, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service has now launched an investigation into the cause of the fire. They wrote on social media: "Firefighters extinguished the fire, but sadly, one person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"An investigation to determine the cause of the fire is now underway. CFRS will be in the area over the coming days to provide community reassurance and fire safety information."

Police said they were working alongside colleagues from the fire service following the incident. A Cumbria Police spokesperson told the Mirror: "Cumbria Police was working alongside colleagues from Cumbria Fire and Rescue following the incident. However, the fire is not being treated as suspicious."
