Dionne Warwick unmasked as Weather on Masked Singer UK in brutal first vote-off
The Masked Singer UK has axed its first contestant with Weather unmasked as Dionne Warwick on the ITV series.
Music icon Dionne left the panel starstruck as she unveiled herself as the star under the costume. She then shared her joy at being asked to do the series, but admitted the struggles she faced trying to disguise her voice on the show.
The unlucky character was booted off of the show on Saturday night, as the latest series debuted - with Maypole, Dippy Egg and Weather in the bottom three. The show returned on Saturday night, with panellists Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross and Mo Gilligan, and guest judge Charlie Simpson, trying to work out the identity of six new characters.
Those on the latest lineup performing in the first episode were Cricket, Weather, Marypole, Bigfoot, Egg and Rat. At the end of the episode, Weather was sadly booted off the show and their true identity was revealed to be Walk On By and I Say a Little Prayer singer Dionne. The next episode will see Air Fryer, Bubble Tea, Owl, Piranha, Eiffel Tower, Chicken Caesar all competing.
Viewers had predicted the singer might be behind the mask before she was revealed to be. Weather dropped a number of clues about their identity on the show before and after their performance.
Corrie's Sue Cleaver says I'm A Celebrity stint helped her to push boundariesClues included being powerful and dominating, and weathering the storm - as well as references to Blues music. One viewer said: "Weather is Dion Warwick," as another tweeted: "Weather has got to be Dionne Warwick."
A third added: "Dionne Warwick is Weather," while a fourth said: "Weather can’t be Dionne Warwick…can it!?" Meanwhile, prior to the show airing host Joel Dommett couldn’t wait for the show to start.
He said: "Honestly, they are the best costumes ever. If they don’t make you smile, well, get out! Air Fryer is unbelievably silly. It's so liberating to be a part of a show where first of all, people really enjoy it and also from my point of view, any idea I have, it's fair game. Even when it comes to the suits!
"I think we've definitely got some of the best vocalists we've ever had on the show and we've had some really incredible ones in the past. The show goes through an interesting meandering of, we are all here for all the new characters, but then maybe the better singers start to get through in the last rounds, usually the final.
"Let's be honest, it’s usually really incredible singers left at that point. This year I really do feel like we've got some of the best we've ever had." It seems he may have been teasing Dionne's appearance on the show!
