Morrisons New Year opening hours - check when UK shops will open and close

Like other supermarket chains in the UK, Morrisons will be adjusting their opening hours over the New Year.

Whether you need to top up on a few bits or do a big shop to start the New Year with, the festive period always throws a spanner in the works as supermarkets usually adjust their opening hours around the Bank Holidays.

New Year will be the same with Morrisons stores reducing their opening times over New Year's Eve and Day. In the few days leading up to New Year's Eve on Sunday Dece,ber 31, Morrisons will be open under their normal hours. Usually, stores open between 6am and 7am until 10pm and 11pm.

As New Year falls on a Sunday this year, larger Morrisons stores will be restricted to Sunday Trading laws as larger stores are only allowed to trade for six hours in England and Wales. This means on New Year's Eve you won't have much time to pick up bits as Morrisons stores will open between 10am and 11am and closing between 4pm and 5pm.

However, Scottish Morrisons stores will be open longer as they have different Sunday trading laws to the rest of the UK. On New Year's Eve, Morrisons stores in Scotland will open frim their usual time of 6am or 7am until 6pm.

After the celebrations, Morrisons will be reopening on New Year's Day but with reduced hours. The majority of stores will be opening from 9am and closing at 6pm on January 1 - this also includes Scottish Morrisons sites. Stores in the UK will then return to their usual opening hours on Tuesday, January 2.

Morrisons also has smaller convenience stores called Morrisons Daily and in our research, these stores appear to be open under their normal hours on both New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. These opening hours are from 7am until 10pm.

Morrisons also runs McColl sites and these stores have different hours to "suit their local communities" - this means you will definitely need to check before you head down as each store will be different.

Morrisons has published the festive opening times for each of its stores on its store finder tool on its website here and you can find your local store by simply entering your postcode.
